Depression

does anyone have experience of vitaminn D being helpful in depression?

Only if you are low in it. If not I can’t see it having the slightest effect. Too much vitamin D is dangerous and can lead to liver problems. x

Totally agree with hypercat - very good advice. Vit D3 supplements should only ever be taken if it has been identified you have a deficiency. Most of our vit D comes from daylight - if you spend the majority of your time indoors without natural light it might be worth getting tested but even here in the UK with low winter light levels, even sitting by a window is sufficient for normal needs. Please do take care when considering vitamin supplements - its very rare to be significantly deficient and it can be very dangerous to exceed ‘normal’ levels for some of them - Vit A for example which like Vit D can also cause liver damage. Ignore advertising completely and only take them on the advice and guidance of your doctor.

You said it far better than I could! x

I just waffle a lot more lol. I never cease to be amazed at the ‘miracle cure’ claims for supplements and herbal remedies - most of them are probably either unnecessary, or at worse downright dangerous. My doctor told me that unless my diet consisted of solely white bread chocolate sandwiches (his words not mine) it would be highly unlikely I’d be seriously deficient for most vitamins. He also categorically pointed out that the body flushes what it doesnt need so in most cases he said that buying supplements just creates expensive pee. I had to laugh at that. I ended up googling different vitamins etc., and it was quite shocking how many are actually really dangerous if taken to excess.

Very true. I wish there were miracle cures but sadly it’s not to be. x
