Dermoid Cyst on remaining ovary :( Looking for advice

Hi,

When i was 21 i was rushed to hospital with sever stomach pain and sickness and was diagnosed with an 11cm dermoid cyst on one ovary and an 8cm dermaoid cyst on the other. the right ovary (11cm cyst) had caused what ive been informed as tersion? and had killed on the right ovary. i was regulary checked  and scanned after the removal of my right ovary for the first 18months and after that i was told that i wasnt high risk even though im only 26 years old and have no children.

A Scan 6 months ago showed that there is now a 3cm dermoid cyst on the remaining left ovary which has started to cause me extreme discomfort.

ive been back and forth to the doctors and hospital only to be left waiting hours and sent home and being told i have to wait up to 4 weeks for a specialist. they have also told me they have to wait until its 5cm until they will operate?

im just looking for advice on what to do next? im so upset with the thought of this same thing happening again and now its causing me pain. its putting a strain on my whole life causing me to feel like im depressed. i cant eat or sleep at night.

Advice would be helpful

Hi.

Sorry to hear about ur situation. But it's lovely to hear someone in same situation.

I think it's best to explain my situation briefly.

Basically June 2013 I was rushed into hospital with severe pain in my right side. I had a 9cm dermoid cyst. And it did same as urs where it twisted and killed my ovary. I had my right ovary removed and tube along with the dermoid cyst

My pain got worse..and I struggled after a few months...I demanded to be seen but the hospital consultant said i had ibs. I had went to my doc and ask to go to a different hospital to have second opinion. Anyway they arrange mri Nov 2014 and found a cyst. And they did a ultrasound 2 months later and found mutiple.. these were fluid filed cust. So feb 2015 I had one cyst removed of my only ovary (left) and one cyst of bladder plus a small fibroid tumour between bladder and womb.

Anyway in May my pain started to get worse. So i asked ny consultant if i could have a scan during follow up. So i had a scan two wks ago and I have two cyst on ny left ovary. One might be like the others i have had which could be fluid filled but one is a dermoid and at the moment it's 2.5cm. And it's really hurting me.

I ended up in a&e Friday but my consultant wasn't there so seen another one and they said they wouldn't scan me again cause dermoid don't grow that fast. But my consultant who I had seen 2 wks ago said he can't grantee it won't grow and what speed.

I also have no children and I am 33 years old.

Am struggling with work and can only manage to work part time due to pain I feel.

I feel so alone and sleep all the time just feel so sore and my back so sore.

I have another scan in few wks time to see what's happening with cyst. But like you said they wait till they are at a certain size before they remove it.

I have been trying for children for 2 months because of my age. They said if I fall pregnant the cysts will stop growing due to hornones and then after baby I can have them removed.

My symptoms are:

pain in ovary which feels like pulsing sharp pain constantly.

Back pain.

Dizzy.

Nausea.

Fatigue

Paranoid and anxious,

Depression.

Headaches.

And list goes on....

I would love to know your symptoms so I could feel "normal".

My big advice is if your in pain don't leave it and keep asking to be seen. Or ask to speak to a different specialist. I know my own body and I know something isn't right.

Please feel free to ask me any questions.

Can I ask did you ever have the merina coil. I did and I have to say I think it's cause most of these problems as few people who have had coil they have had dermoid cyst later on.

Do u have any other health issues?? Xxx

Hi all,

i am 22, was admitted to hospital for left lower pelvic pain, ct scan found 9.5/10cm dermoid on left ovary, (there is also a possibility I had a kidney stone and I feel that is what caused the worst pain), my uterus is also retroverted (i don't know whether the cyst tilted it or whether I was born that way) and my bladder is compressed. Within months of each other I have been diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia and prediabetes (i am around 8 stone so not overweight and i walk for an hour a day 5 days a week so i'm guessing it's down to my poor diet). Surgery is planned within 2 months. To answer sarah28436's question my symptoms (i can't really distinguish them from the other problems)

Extreme tiredness/fatigue that comes and goes

Low motivation

Waking up to wee (a recent symptom could be the blood sugar though?)

Pressure, and pulling sensation where the cyst is

Lower abdomen constantly feels swollen (like i'm pregnant)

Weirdest one - My belly button is off center and is starting to kinda push out

TMI- very slow to start period that takes a whole day of spotting to get going sometimes.

Anyway Charlotte, I think it really depends on whether you are prepared to go private and pay. The only reason I can't is because I spent the last three years working jobs i haven't been fond of to raise money for uni, this year I finally got in and all this is happening, so I couldn't bring myself to spend my entire uni fund savings (which would be all the money I have) so I stayed with the NHS (not a desicion that i feel the most happy with so far but well see). My advice is get a second opinion, I don't know where you are in the country but I've heard about Stoke Mandeville and Oxford gynaecology center. If I could go private there is a surgeon that sounds brilliant (there are some other ladies who have talked about him on here), he specialises in laproscopic surgery and says he will always attempt to save an ovary. Maybe he could be an option for you? but the down side of course is the money, they gave me a guide price of £5000-£8000 to remove a dermoid cyst with £350 for the initial consultation!

hey, just wondering what ended up happening Charlotte, did you get surgery? I'm in the same boat, I had my right ovary taken out when I was 19, I am now 23 and have a complex cyst on my left ovary, worried about it needing to come out cause it's causing pain
