DHas anyone experienced dizziness with onset of cataracts? I’m near debilitated.

Hello, I’m new posting to the forum but have spent a few months lurking here.

I am almost 45, F, high myope -11 in both eyes. Never had any issues until last July when i experienced my first PVD in my left eye. It was a complete detachment, with the flashing circle of light. I thought it was my retina but next day at eye doctor it was ruled out. The next day or two my eye filled with floaters as thick as cotton balls. Within a few months the other eye started to detach as well.

I decided after about six months of impaired vision to have a vitrectomy to remove the floaters in my left eye with the worse vision. I did careful research and selected a top surgeon. I was told the risks were retinal detachment and infection. Cataract is a possibility but usually later in life if you are younger. I was informed and prepared. The procedure was uneventful. However three weeks after the surgery when i was cleared to resume contact lens wear, I was hit with extreme dizziness and disorientation. It was terrifying. I thought maybe my brain just needs to adjust back to contact lenses since ive been wearing thick glasses for weeks.

its been four months since surgery and the dizziness is still here. It comes only from the operated eye; if i patch it or close it the dizziness goes away. My retina surgeon has done five OCT scans and they are all normal so he has ruled out the retina. He noticed i had slight double vision so sent me to a strabismus doctor, who gave me prism glasses. It helps the double vision (never knew i had it) but not the dizzy symptoms. I have trace NS in the eye on slit lamp exam and he sent me for further cornea and lens testing which showed an abnormality at the cornea (irregulr astigmatism) and an abnormality at the anterior lens capsule surface.

My life has been ruined overnight. i am unable to do most things. My left eye has a strange feeling when light hits it; it gets oddly painful. The smaller my pupil the better my dizziness so i am taking Pilocarpine which helps but has its own set of issues, I cant see at night in the eye due to the constricted pupil. The bigger my pupil the dizzier i get. I get dizzy with head movement or fast movements. However i have pretty good acuity in the eye overall.

The surgeon feels these symptoms are all coming from the lens. I know a vitrectomy can accelerate a cataract but did not expect it weeks after the surgery. Also it isnt seemingly presenting as a normal sort of cataract. whatever the lens abnormality is so far is only showing up on the Pentacam testing. My surgeon said just because he cant see it doesnt mean there isnt something there. The next step is to try monovision in an attempt to blur out the left eye and hopefully help with the dizziness.

Has anyone experienced dizziness in their eye due to the onset of cataracts? I feel scared, alone and unsure what to do. I don’t see blurred spots in ny eye but i do lose vision in sunlight and my lens almost seems to darken up around the periphery when i go from a dark room to a lit room. It’s also suoer sensitive in sunlight. The eyedrops have reduced the light sensitivity and dizziness, so it mist be the lens? The vision in my eye is mostly clear but it looks glassy, almost like someone switched my lens.

Thank you for reading. Sorry for the typos, there is apparently no spell check here.
