In January of 2021, I was hit with something that had all the classic signs of a diverticulitis attack - pain, tenderness and bloating in belly (especially on left side), constipation, slight fever, weakness, feeling terrible, etc. I ended up in the ER and the diagnosed with diverticulitis via a CT scan. I was put on the Flagyl and Cipro regiment, which was brutal. I had another CT scan a week later because I was still feeling bad. The infection was clearing up, but they extended the meds another five days.
A month later I had a colonoscopy. I had a few benign polyps, but the doc found “No obvious diverticulosis.” He said it could have been “focal gastroenteritis” and to call back if the symptoms reoccurred.
Well, they reoccurred last week. Just like last time, it was all the classic symptoms I described above. The only difference is I knew what to expect, and immediately stopped eating and went on a liquid diet. I called the doc and got an appointment scheduled… in a month.
Anyway, my question is this – has anyone else had the issue of no diverticulosis being observed during a colonoscopy? You can’t have diverticulitis without diverticula… right? At the time, the doc said a diverticula could have been hidden in a fold of the colon, but it still seems a but unusual.
