Diagnosed with LS 6 months

Diagnosed about 6 months ago by my gp. Not seen any other medical specialist, just my gp. I have over that time used Clobestol to control itching and soreness and done as my gp told me by using less and less as time as gone on. Reading other messages, everyone seems to have been reffered to either gynocologist or skin specialist. Should I be worried that I haven't been referred to anyone else?

My current status with LS is probably like others the hot weather isn't helping, making it feel quite uncomfortable. I have been using clobestal each day for the last week or so. Thank you

I do not think I would have been seen by a Consultant if I had not had the growth!  My GP told me I had Vaginal Atrophy, it was the Consultant who told me I actually had the LS.  So not sure what to advise you!  All I will say in 69 years I had NEVER heard of this condition so not sure every GP can actually tell you for definite about this condition.  I think it should be spoken about more by women, because I think a LOT of women have this condition but just put up with the symptoms until the itching gets to bad!

Hi sue, yes you need to go back to your gp & ask them to refer you to a specialist. Many drs like my one didn’t have a clue and said wait for the consultation appoint. Things down there sum times change, and getting the right treatment early on will help you. Good luck x

Hi Sue, some gynecologists, dermatologists dont know much about LS and so I do think its the luck of the draw!!

If you have a doctor that was able to recognize your LS then good for you, and it is likely that he has probably taken the time to do a bit of research on it.  If however you are having problems and getting no relief then maybe consider asking to see a specialist.

Thank you Sandra. It was actually a rectal consultant ( I had fissure) that first stated LS aswell as my fissure and then I went back to my gp (female) who agreed with him.

Thank you for your reply. Im thinking of going back to my gp anyway as i havent seen her for about 3 months. Ive just been applying the cream as and when.

Thank you for your reply. I did think I was managing it ok until the weather got so hot which has made it more uncomfortable. I will probably go back and see her soon just for a check up. I don't have a partner and due to a back problem I find it difficult to check things myself!
