Diarrhea 6 weeks after gall bladder removal

Hi all, back again. Currently 6 weeks post op. All in all feeling much better other than stomach aches, feels like I run hundreds of miles and pulled every muscle in my tummy! Also I have severe diarrhea, within 5-30 minutes of eating. Even low fat foods, toast, crackers whatever I eat doesn't seem to make a difference! does anyone have any experience of this or know if there is anything to help? Think I may take a visit back to my gp.

Many thanks 😁

Have you been like that since the op? Know it's caused by the constant flow of bile into the intestine which can cause irritation and has a laxative type effect. Yeah would speak to GP as they may suggest Imodium type tablets. Think it's called loperamide off the shelf. Hopefully taking some of them for a short while should help xx

Imodium didn't help me. I had constant diarrhoea too but doctor prescribed cholestyramine which helped a lot. Within a couple of days I was diarrhoea free. It's what is called a bile binder,  it mops up bile.

Hi yes been since op... I had heard that it can happen but I believed that was just if you ste a lot of fat?! I'm still on bare minimal amount of fat! Yes will go tomorrow morning and see what they say. What's cholestryramine?

Definitely not fat related as I was eating hardly anything. It's caused by a xcess bike, common after cholecystectomy. Cholestyramine is what they call a bile binder, it helps to mop up excess bile. In time I think your body learns to deal with the bile. Problem is worst in the early days. It's a powder you mix with liquid.

Have never heard of that but will certainly keep that in mind if I end up with that side effect xx

Probably due to excess bile. Try gradually increasing fibre in your diet. It that doesn't help, your doctor can prescribe something to help.
