Diarrhea after meals

After my consultant told me he had taken me off the list for a gallbladder op as he didn't agree with my previous consultant, my diary went to pot, after all if I didn't have a gallbladder problem then why did I have to deprive myself any more, oh course, I started having problem and so have gone back to low fat again.  But now I have been getting a lot of intense pain with diarrhea a couple of hours after I eat.  I thought at first I had eaten something dodgy, but this has happened a few to may times, so am wondering, did any of you get diarrhea as a gallbladder symptom?

That should read , my diet went to pot, (can you edit on this forum?)

I don't understand - either you have gallstones or you don't - how could this be a source of disagreement? If you don't have them and your gallbladder isn't infected and doesn't have any growths or anything untoward showing up in scans then perhaps you have IBS or gluten intolerance/ Ceoliacs? Worth getting tested for this with your symptoms I would have thought.

If you do have stones or other problems directly relating to the gallbladder then I was told this renders it defunct - in which case it should be removed because it can lead to other potentially dangerous problems. I have had stones for at least fifteen years and recently, due to other underlying health problems, ended up in hospital for a week with an infected gallbladder that caused a sepsis. Not pleasant and pretty scary,

I don't use these patient UK forums much because it isn't possible to edit once you have posted. Really annoying eh?

Regarding

I definatley have gallstones and my last consultant said the same, get my gallbladder out before it causes more issues, but as I moved area while I was on the waiting list, I have had to change hospitals and then new consultant says, just because I have gallstones, doesn't mean that is the cause of my pain and refuses to put me on the list.  I have yet another scan on Friday and am hoping he will change his mind once he seems the size of my gallstone!

Hi , it totally amazes me how one doctor can say one thing confirming you have gallstones but in another area you are refused , doctors take the oath to heal all , when did that fly out the window , if he still refuses to put you on the list report him to the medical association at once.

If you have stones you are only making yourself ill by not having them removed , so insist on it.

Then this makes no sense at all. The size is relevant though because large ones tend to stay put and not cause gallbladder flares - it's the small ones which can escape and block bile duct etc that are the problem. My surgeon seems to think my recent sepsis wasn't gallbladder related either although he agrees it needs to come out. My GPs both think that this is nonsense as you can get infections of the gallbladder itself and gallstones can cause all sorts of problems that aren't so obvious as well as right sided abdominal pain. I would insist on having it removed as you have stones. If the irritable bowel continues afterwards then you will know it is a different problem and be better able to remedy it.

Not sure. I had gallstones and had my gallbladder out a couple of weeks ago. I had one episode of bad diarrhoea after eating chilli con carne, but I think this was a stomach bug or the chilli con carne rather than anything to do with the gallstones. Actually I was the other way round with the gallstones(constipated) but I think having gallstones can affect people in different ways.

If you still feel you could have gallstones then have you had an ultrasound scan? If you think you have a problem with your gallbladder then I would push for the op. I feel so much better after mine.

Take care
