Ive been on Mirtazapine for 10 days... at first it was all fine. I wasnt tired, not zombieish and feeling good. For the past two days Ive sufferes serious diarrhea, joint and muscle pain and headache. Anyone else experience this? Does the diarrhea go away?
Maybe you have a bug? It could be your body adjusting to the meds, but there is a tummy bug going around. See how you feel in a few days. I would of thought if you were going to get side effects then it would of been before 10 days.
I have been on mirtazapine 2 and a half years. Not had diarroeah on it. Had headache in the first week but not the other symptoms you mentioned. Hope you feel better ☺
Okay hopefully its just a bug, since I.actuallt like mirta
It is a good drug for depression. There is a lot of negative comments on here about it, but it was a life saver for me. Yes I feel groggy some days, but am also on sleeping tablets and other night time meds. Only reason I want to come off it, though am reluctant because how much it helped is 4 stone weight gain. That is my negative. Yep definitely a lot of bugs going around right now. I was on the toilet all last week also with headache and generally feeling yuck.
Same thing happened to me at the 10th day with severe headache. I was told it was a bug. Then Zi understood it was mirtazapine. That was the first time my body was trying to tell me to quit the drug...this is the sign you'll have many side effects if you continue. If it' ONLY 10 days I would stop it now, to avoid future withdrawal symptoms.
You are highly annoying. You are trolling the mirtazapine forums and keep telling people to stop taking it. Just because you had a bad experience, you don't have the right to keep telling people to stop taking it. Are you a doctor? Guess what? Mirtazapine saved my life. I attempted suicide 3 times 3 years ago. I was ready to jump out of a top window. You might not of liked the drug, but everyone is different. They have different chemistry and different illness. When people are just starting mirtazapine they are in a highly depressed and anzip us state, people like you frighten them and make it worse. If you aren't on Mirtazapine, why are you trolling this forum? Anti depressants could mean the difference between life and death for some people, bear that in mind. I could say that paroxetine is poison to people because of what happened to me, but I won't do that to people.
LLie I had the exact opposite side effect of Mirtazapine. I became extremely constipated. I hadn’t had a bowel movement for a couple of days and was in pain. I can’t drive and it only made the pain worse when I had to walk to a local clinic (in America). The Dr. looked up Mirtazapine and one of the side effects was constipation. It was at a point where he couldn’t help me and told me to go the ER of a local hospital. It was an unpleasant experience but I was told since I take this med to get up and walk around, only if it amounted to walking in my home. To stay active, for at least me, is what I have to do.
When a person develops heavy side effects since day one it means it will develop others in the future and it also indicates a very difficult withdrawal. I'm very sorry for what happened to you and very happy you are still here. In your case it really helped! Each case is very different. Have a blessed Sunday. M
Well said, mirt was a live saver for me too, yes I had side effects but feeling better out weighs them. From what I have read all antidepressants have some sort of side effects. Before starting mirt I had not slept for 6 weeks and was in a dark place now after 7 months I am ready to start coming off them. We also have a three month old little girl which I have managed to deal with very well, so this drug is not all bad and feel it's one of the milder ones.
Thanks for writing that reply. I wish people wern't so anti Mirt, I waited 6 weeks before starting these because of what I had read. But now I wish I had started earlier since its really a life saver!
Oh no! Im sorry to hear that! Doesnt sound fun at all! Are you still constipated or was it just a one time experience? Hope it gets better
Mirt helped me sleep and made my life so much better, like a miracle drug. I do want to say I wouldn't worry about the diarrhea or headaches so much, just a minor adjustment to the medication. I do want to mention that I developed muscle pain in my hips and legs, so I went back to my doctor I think about six months into taking the mirt. He said it was fibro and nothing much could be done. Some days the muscle pain was real bad others not so bad. It got to the point another doctor told me it was sciatica and I might need an operation. But just then not much later my prescribing doctor for the mirt accidentally made a prescription for 15 instead of 30 and the muscle pain was reduced noticeably. Muscsle/ joint pain only happens in 6% of mirt users. I would keep an eye on it and see but don't let doctors tell you it's not from the mirt because it might be. That's the reason I got off the mirt. Good luck...best health.
im not trolling and feel I would be irresponsible if I didn't call your attention to this.
Thanks, I do have back pain but mostly hip pains, but I can live with that but the diarrhea is whats bothering me the most. Im glad the Mirtazapine helped you. There is too much Mirta-hate on the internet, it really dud put me off trying it, but Im glad I did!
Hi llie i started on mirt 9 weeks ago and the first two weeks i could not stay off the loo, also could not stop eating but both settled down now! I slept in until 6am also having only slept until 3am for 3 months. Good luck.x
Okay hopefully this will pass.... hope you're doing well!
I've only had a couple more episodes. The last time was about 1 1/2 months ago. It took a long painful time and thought I was delivering a baby, first for a male. I drink hot coffee in the morning and think that helps.
not being flippant, but have you tried taking laxatives in addition to your mirtazapine. I found that helped my constipation until I found I didn't really need laxatives anymore
Hi rose
I have been on mirt for 6 months and have the same problem with muscle pain in my legs and the bottoms of my feet, but it has got me back to a better place. Now starting to come off it as u feel the time is right

That is actually not true either. Many side effects disappear within 6 weeks once your body adjusts. Not saying I don't get minor effects from mirtazapine, but they don't out way the benefits. I was put in another antidepressant clomipramine. I had horrific side effects for 5 weeks including agitation and urges to drink bleach which is something that has never entered my head. I almost stopped them afer 3 days, but they helped so much after the initial side effects. Never had a problem since so it's important for people to expect side effects early on. Obviously if they are severe then they need to discuss with the doctor.
