having been given this to help with starting an anti dep i now find i need 5mg in night and about 2-3 in day. I am trying to taper off mirtazapine and wonder if i can manage my anxiety with only diazepam, slowly reducing it over a period of time.
something is really making me socially avoid things as i dont want to do anything, i wasn't like this before these meds. I was happy with my life and family, just normal.
Hi Ann, you can manage your anxiety on diazepam alone but only for a short amount of time as you probably know they are addictive and you can build up tolerance.
You could go with managing it through CBT longer term.
I think it's fair to say when we suffer from anxiety and depression one of the main symptoms is a lack of motivation to do anything including social things, non of us can really say we were like this before the meds as if we were happy with everything we wouldn't have needed them.
One way or another you will find your way again.

Hi Ann , thats what Im doing , im trying to manage anxiety witu bezno. And tbh Id rather be addicted to benzos than stupid ADs. Look what mirtazapiine did to us. I was taking diazepam for nearly a year and come off it without problems. You dont take big amounts of it.
You could try?!
But I know Drs, well especially mine, don't like you taking it long term, which annoys me as they know it works for anxiety!
Every time I put a repeat prescription in I have a fight to get it and I'm only taking 2mg!!
This reminds me when a dr prescribed diazepam for me due to insomnia . I ttook 5 mgms, it did nothing ecept cause light headedness that lasted for several days.
I split one tablet into quarters. I took just 1.25 mgms and guess what. Within about twenty minutes the room was spinning round and I felt as though I could not bear the weight of my head on my neck/shoulders.
I have never taken any of that stuff since, that was 3 years ago.
Benzos are very hard to come off. I expect that you have heard about an Organisation called Benzo Buddies. I think that drs are more aware of the dangers of benzos now so hesitate to prescribe them which is good.
Hi Ann I have been on diazepam for 10 years 7 mgs l have to say l hate them with a passion.l am tapering off and having been on and off antidepressants l would not compare the two experiences.I am tapering off very slowly. Also long term use of benzos increase anxiety and depression.
Thats the level of diazepam i have. I will not be tapering them until i have finally tapered the antimdep which is currently going down.
i know diazepam is a real killer to get off, i have heather ashton manual but it mainly deals with higher levels, though very informative.
do you feel that at the level you are at you will come down by halving one mg each time, and holding for a fortnight? It is difficult to know what is best
Yes l take it slowly.l taper when l stabilise which is generally every 3 or 4 weeks l want to keep the withdrawal symptoms manageable.
