I've been going around all morning with a niggling suspicion that I forgot to take my pred today. If I did, and wake up crippled tomorrow morning, what should I do?
I thought if you forgot to take the Pred you would have known by now. The stiffness will get worse before the day out. I took mine in the morning and stiffness actually telling to take it on the right time ie breakfast. Once a day dose.
I live in Atlantic time zone. It's only been three or four hours since I should have taken it. I usually am pretty good even after I first get up. Don't seem to have the same changes in stiffness that some do as the day and night go on. So I guess if I feel rather crippled by supper I should jsut take my dose and then carry on tomorrow as usual? What I ws wondering was whether I should increase the dose tomorrow morning. At 5 mg now, so a bit anxious not to rock the tapering boat, it's finely tuneld enough as it is.
Oh dear, steroid brain fog - I remember it well! I can't remember your present dose but, if you notice returning symptoms later on today then if it were me I'd take a small dose tonight and return to the usual dose tomorrow. Good luck!
Yes, that seems the logical thing to do. I guess I was thinking I'd be fine until morning, but probably not, if I really did forget! There are so darned many little things to do first thing in the morning, and today for some reason the cats distracted me as I was getting the glucosamine and vitamin E, which usually get accompanied by the pred pill, so I have absolutely no recollection whether or not I opened the pred bottle.
I thought the leaflet said if you forget to take the usual dose do it as soon as you remember and carry on as usual the next day and never double up. Check the leaflet if you still got it or search website. Good luck
How frustrating!! I would find myself in the same boat if I didn't write the dose and time down in my handy purse sized 'Halmark" calendar immediately on taking the meds. I get them free at my local drug store. I keep it with me at all times in a small bag along with all my medication. I never leave home without it. :-)
Good tip. I keep track, but only so I know what I should take especially when tapering. Not a retrospective check like you make. Might have to do something like that if I make a habit of being so absentminded, but then it would be another thing to add to my lengthening first thing in the morning list.
Leaflet? I gues that would be in the multi-page printout of rather intimidating side effects (many generic for any prescription) handed to me when I first filled the prescription. OK. Here is where we really need an edit button because then I could delete this post.... Oh well..... I guess I was asking because it isn't really like an antibiotic. I was wanting to know how best to handle any increasing pain, but of course the logical answer, which should have occurred to me, is to take the medicine when I notice I need it. But so far so good. Probably a false alarm!
Thanks everyone. Guess this isn't the end of the world after all. Carrying on my day as usual. Snow and freezing rain outside (welcome to Spring)appears to be changing to all rain.
I do keep simple log with date;time and dose... It is very helpful during taper... I take it in the evening an morning... so log helps to keep the dose correct.
With my new found brain😠 I have all my pills in one of those organized pill boxes that have morning, noon and night and each day of the week has its on container so if going out you can take just the day of morning noon and night and slip it in your purse. If I didn't have this i would forget and even with a watch alarm for my afternoon dose I forget. Then 1 HR later I feel the pain and go, oh yah the alarm , lol got side tracked. Love the brain fog. It may help you but you seem to have managed extremely well without a pill box.
Mariane
I forgot once and never again,I was in agony, although I did manage to forget a second time! If you double up on the dose for one day it is not the end of the world if you are worried.
I think it is time for me to get a MaidMarion pill box. I have had a couple of occassions when I was not quite sure what I had taken, then do you risk doubling up or going without ?
I have a weeklong pill organizer for my vitamins and minerals. The pred is next to this and I "always" take out the pred dose and take the lot together. Exceept today I didn't remember if I had. It is now 6 pm here and I'm fine so it was a false alarm.
Hope you will manage to find it out soon! Or through your symptoms or throughout your memory!
Good luck !
😊
Belive it or not my husband found this style of pill box at our dollar store here in Canada. I liked the style so much I went back and got 2 more. I figure I will wear them out over the duration of pmr since it's only been 6 months. My hat goes off to all of you for your strength and stama. I calculate that with my prednisone intolerance to reduction it will take me approximately 112 weeks to reduce 17mg to be at 10mg daily. Only 1mg at a time with the slow tapering so again for you long time people my hat goes to you.
Me too, I have a separate pill box that is weekly daily box for vitamins since there are so many and are so big along with my prednisone pill box. My 90 yr old mother doesn't have a pill box. Lol
I got it too at the dollar store
WOW... I hate pills.. Good thing that I only take pred and one other. I dont take vitamins and trust that if you eat well balance diet one should not need supplements.
Hi Nick, I agree with you pre pmr. We eat incredibly well and never took vitamins unlike my husband pre pmr, however I will take them now to give me any edge to prevent bone loss as well as be conscience of my diet.
As one other person said I feel like a 90 year old with the meds I take because pre pmr I took nothing, no blood preasure nothing for my age. So now I take specific vitamins for my bones as well as eat alot of cheese.
