that's bad luck to be having a revision so soon after the op! I hope it goes well for you. Not had the experience myself, but hope there is someone on here who can reply to you!
I haven't had one......yet! My original TKR was in Dec '13 and has never been successful and my bend is no more than 90 degrees with pain all the time. I have seen a Consultant who talked about revision with me and left things open so I could consider revision surgery. I have an appt at the end of July to tell him to go ahead. Are you unhappy with your revision?
my revision was done 10mths ago after a year and a half after my bi lateral tkr one of them failed so probably not usual thank god as i wouldnt want anyone else to have this happen tothem
No, Linda, this was my first (and hopefully my last) TKR. Best wishes with yours.
i wouldnt say im sorry i had it done .its like when you get your tkr first time its because of serious problem with me pain with very little bend i only had 70% now ive 95 ish now slightly off on straightening which was not a problem before revision ,its been very slow progress and an awfull lot of physio now physio is finished im still in abit of pain and sometimes stiff but walking alot better and can stand for longer
Hi I am Angel. I had a revision/conversation from partial to full. But I'm having issues. I have to find a new surgeon.
be very choosey when you pick a surgeon my first surgeon for bi lateral has had alot of failures i only found that out after mine and since he has had more i myself cant understand why he still is opperating i tell everyone who asks me not to go to him my doctor wont refer anyone else to him my last surgeon has a great reputation so check them out too late after
Very good advice. . but can you choose who your surgeon will be if you aren't going private? I was lucky and chose the best knee and hip surgeon in tenerife . . although he is a bit brusque, he knows what he is doing!
I've had what amounts to two. I have a rare tumor that Lee up and caused me to have original tkr. The tumor returned and caused the original to loosen and needed replacement. Staph infection a few months later caused the need for this one that was put in 2 weeks ago last Thursday. The process is the same without as much work on the bone being required. My hopes are that this one will last as long as I need it. At my age I feel itll make do.
ya mine was too he puts most people in tears but as you say he knows what he is doing ,
oh i do hope it lasts for you ,my god you have been through so much .im on my first revision and hope its the last for a long time as he put in a different one to the last one and also put steel rods on either end he said it would keep it solid and maybe its the rods as well as the knee is the reason its taking longer to settle not sure but it still is painfull if i do too much and stiffens up abit
It would stand to reason that the more hardware the more stuff to heal. I sort of equate it to anything similar to a machine....the more complicated to assemble the more things to have to work together to complete a task flawlessly. There are so many modifications that have been made to the prosthesis of 15 years ago I'm not sure how the Dr's can even keep up with the proceedure. I have a friend who had a cancer of the femur/hip. The ortho/oncologist had to remove a huge amt of bone and put in a custom piece of titanium rod and hip. Fast forward 1I months and he is walking with a slight limp and is completely cancer free. Fortunately he has son who is an internal medicine doc and can act as an interpreter and explain things so a layman can understand the discussion
yes thanks for pointing that out to me .i need to remember that next time it makes me fed up , im bending better than before straightening is slightly off over all its better since the revision got to accept its never going to be perfect good luck to you i hope your home soon
Just got the word 30 mins ago that I will be out of here Saturday a.m. and start home health care the same day. I will push to start out patient therapy by the end of the week if possible, the following week at the latest. I have really pushed the PT hard doing a lot of reps and increasing weight daily. As soon as I can start bending the leg and putting full weight on it I will be working on the flex like I need. The extension really feels good so that part should be easier. Hope I'm not just dreaming
The golf course beckons at last . . . . .
i was like you on my bi lateral couldnt put full weight on the broken tibia it was so hard not being able to put foot to ground i was put on cpm after 6wks to help the bend its hard work you are a fighter and a motovated person that should see you through keep dreaming we all have to keep us posted when your home
The very best of luck O F G I hope it all goes well for you and now that you are at home you can really start to recover..
Hi
I had a right knee replacement August 2010 and have been in constant chronic pain ever since..numerous 2nd opinions and although it has been agreed that the knee was slightly too large and slightly off line it is in acceptabble levels. I want to know acceptable to whom..certainly not me.. I have been reluctant to post any more because my intention is not to put people off as many do benefit but I would like to know where they get their statistics from. I have spent 5 years now for a proper explanation but some old same old.
Some works some don't
Sorry guys. Excersise only makes it worse...I am up for any studies.
