Diet

Hi my menieres is playing up really bad at mo 19 days and counting I've tried cutting out even more salt from my diet but it doesn't seem to be helping. What sort of food don people eat without salt?

Sarita x

Hi Sarita. I read earlier that it's good to keep potassium and vitamin b levels up too. So dried apricots, jacket potatoes, salmon, tuna, bananas, natural yoghurt are all good. I must say, when you cut salt out there's not much left!! I'm sick of salad and fruit...no cheese, crisps, pizza, vodka and coke.... All the good things eh? (And I missed out on a trip to the zoo today because my head was playing up this morning)

Oh no I hope you didn't have to much spinning. This morning i was meant to go up to the school with my daughter but couldn't go I hate missing out. That's what I'm thinking about food will try and get some vit b tablets x

One consultant I saw didn't seem too concerned about salt intake. I guess you're on betahistine? I'm on double dose 3 times a day and it really has been alot better. 32 mg instead of 16mg 3 times a day. The doctors won't say you can have that but ask your consultant if suitable for you to try? Plus a prescribed diuretic which she said would reduce the salts in my fluids in the ear. I had spins every six days roughly for 6 months and im now 2 months without one and 3 wks post grommet/steroid injection. I avoid salty things and my alcohol motto is no spirits or wine, stick to a shandy here and there.

I'm on 16mg 3 times a day I'm not due to see the consultant till next month I have tried ringing them and can't get an earlier appointment so I rang my go and he won't do anything unless I see him bit there isn't any appointment till at least two weeks I'm going mad x I've started to take travel sickness pills to see if this stops the sickness feeling today so far so good x

On youtube there are several videos by a chap called Ed Cheung (Edward or Edmund) and he gives lots of tips and advice. He is american so the drug names are different that he talks about but I found him very helpful. He has menieres but is himself a doctor. Stugeron if that's the travel sickness pill you're on, I found helpful and during bad phases I took them every day (2 pills). Also I switched to caffeine free coke and teabags/coffee. Loud environments and loud noises can set me off, maybe same for you. Ive soundproofed cupboards n doors at work to stop banging. See if there's a pattern regarding noise for you?

Thank u in going to go on utube it will be interesting to here a doctor know how we feel. Loud noises do hurt my ear especially if the children r loud bless them. The travel pill I'm taking are for motion sickness so hopefully will work. I'm willing to try anything to get it back under control. Hope yours isn't bad at the moment x

Hi - not sure that salt seemed to be relevant for me - it was all about stress. Try really hard to reduce the stress levels and relax - do breathing exercises etc.

also - try the accupressure arm band that is sold for travel sickness.

Thanks Jackie I might just do that it's worth a go to see if they work x
