Difference between GERD and Acid Reflux?

It be great to know what these share in common or how they are different?!

Hi Rowel, GERD is a form of Acid Reflux. Think of AR as the general term and then one can be further diagnosed.

Its so darn confusing...i was diagnosed with reflux and sent on my way...I have so many questions about it as well...mostly is all reflux just acid or can all foods come back up and does it all do damage?

Yes and yes smile. There is a ring of muscle at the top of your stomach that once closed off preventing foods and fluids from coming back up. As we age this muscle tends to weaken allowing things to flow back up. When it does the gastric juices over time errode the esophagus, which is not made to handle the acids. As the guices  irritate your esophagus it triggers your throat to cause you to cough and/or your nose to drip congestion. Coughing after eating is a very common symptom of AR. If you are able to review my past comments, I have written allot on what I did to solve my AR. I know it's frustrating, but with some lifestyle changes it can be solvable.
