Diffundox

My husband has been taking Diffundox for a few years due to an enlarged prostate. He was taking a tablet every few days which kept the condition of frequent need to urinate under control. However, in the last couple of months he has more or less stopped taking the medication because he has less need to urinate as frequently. Is this unusual? Could it be that his condition simply cleared up? He is 60 and healthy.

I’ve been on Tamsulosin and have been able to do without it after a while. I think a lot depends on lifestyle and what we eat and drink, so things can improve or worsen spontaneously. I get retrograde ejaculation when I’m on Tamsulosin so I’ve stopped for breaks now and then for that reason.

A couple of thoughts. 1) 1 tablet every few days probably is less than a therapeutic dose, so any relief may have been either coincidental or placebo. 2) Prostates never get smaller - they stay the same size or grow, so if your husband is better either something other than his prostate (overactive bladder possibly) was causing the problem and its somewhat abated or some lifestyle change (diet, exercise, less caffeine, alcohol, ect.) caused that condition (something other than prostate size) has relieved his symptoms.

Thank you for your responses. His lifestyle and diet has remained pretty consistent. As said, he has gone from having to take a table every few days to managing to do without taking one for much longer periods. He has been on these tablets for a few years and with the same pattern of dosage. For some reason, this year it has all changed.
