since my very first general anaesthetic three years ago i have had pretty constant nausea every morning. Dr put it down to anxiety and put me on meddication for that. Also buccastem. None of this has worked so took gallbladder out. I seem to be worse a year after that. I am now depressed about it all and nausea persists. Wondering if i need gi investigations now but that just makes the anxiety worse. Stuck, dont know what to do.
You may be intolerant to general anaesthesia if your nausea started after this. Although anxiety can cause nausea, the fact that you had sedation which is well known to trigger sickness, would suggest it was the anaesthesia that caused it. You need to tell your doctor to put this on your notes so that if you need surgery ever again, the anaesthetist will be aware of your complication. Anti depressants and sedation are toxins. Doctors don't like admitting to this. They'd rather blame it on anxiety. I am intolerant to any form of sedation which causes me nausea, vomiting and depression. I also am intolerant to some local anaesthetics. When I had gas for a tooth extraction, I had immediate nausea, depression and anxiety. The anxiety lasted for years along with nightmares.
Gallbladder surgery can make things a lot worse. It can trigger Bile acid malabsorption or IBS.
Gosh, you are the only person who has talked any sense about all this. My gp just wants to give me anti anxiety med and is trying to keep nausea at bay but failing. How on earth can i get better, itss juts so life affecting when you cant live each day without feeling awful.
Maybe ask your doctor for a gallbladder diet sheet and monitor what you eat. After gallbladder surgery, you sometimes need to be careful with certain types of food, particularly anything greasy. You could try sipping milk throughout the day; it can settle your stomach and help with nausea.
My late mum had the same intolerances to sedation and other medications as I have. I have quite a few aches and pains from old injuries which never healed properly because I couldn't face going to have them treated in case it caused further complications.
The stomach has many more nerves than the spinal cord and they can get disturbed after the trauma of surgery. It is worthwhile asking your doctor for GI investigations to see if anything has become inflammed. The worry about undiagnosed symptoms will make you feel worse.
If your doctor cannot help you, see someone else. I went to several doctors because no one could diagnose my stomach pain, nausea, constipation and loose stools. In my case I was diagnosed with IBS.
