Since having my surgery on the 17th of July I have to take apixoban blood thinners twice daily. Today my G.P prescibed flucloxacillin antibiotics for a possible u.t.i. When I read the leaflet I noticed that these may cause problems. I forgot to mention to my G.P about the blood thinners. The surgery is closed now and all day tomorrow.

If you can't get ahold of a medical professional soon, you might want to go to drugs . com to check for interactions between prescription medications. I left spaces so that the link will not be blocked. Check the page for one of your medications and there will be a section about Drug Interactions where you can check the other med to see if there might be problems.

A phone call with an out of hours service would be a good start. Then the information leaflet states you say, may cause problems and does not state that the problems always happen. Does it give a percentage chance or frequent, infrequent of them happening. Have you any of the problematic symptoms caused? Many people on anticoagulation therapy are prescribed antibiotics, 

if you consult the The out of hours service and discuss the information in the leaflet you should get far more information, then contact the surgery when it reopens

Andrea, your GP should have know from your discharge notes that you are on blood thinners. You say the leaflet says may cause problems so from that I take it as unlikely. I was on differnet IV antibs after my THR due to an unknown infection and still had blood thinning tablets no problem.

But I agree with others, call your pharmacy or out of hours service for your own peice of mind.

I had UTI first day at home and not even question my GP if it could go with my Fragmin blood thinning meds ...

Your pharmacy will probably be much more knowledgable about drug interactions than any of the doctors!
