Just want a moan and to know what others think .
Now that I am driving again I am very nervous about parking my car and coming back to find that someone has parked too close for me to get in .
Before my op I asked council if they gave temporary badges for people in our position and was told no . What do you hippies all think about this ?
I believe we should get a temporary badge, even if it's only for 6 weeks or so, it's pretty awkward getting in and out of a car just after you've had the operation as we know, some people might need it for longer, it just depends on how quickly they heal.
I agree . They ca
n have it back as soon as I can manage . We all know of people who abuse the scheme. But should be easy to check up on temp ones . Any idea who to complain to ?
Hi Mary i get that i went shopping with my son last week came to get into car and could not manage it thank god for my son. Totally agree with you
I guess your local council?
Hi
Still waiting for my op but this is something I have looked into also and yes, no temporary badge available. I think it's quite disgusting. I'm going to make my own which will state that I have had a total hip replacement, obviously I will only use it when parking in disabled spaces in places like supermarkets where it is a courtesy not to park in them if you are not disabled. I see so many people who abuse those spaces and I never do so I will not be made to feel guilty about using one when I have the need!
That's a really good question Mary.
I can recall after my 1st THR last year having the same problem just after I started driving again.
I never enquired about a blue badge, just made sure I parked well away from the main entrances..Only problem with that is you have further to hobble back to the car with a load of shopping.
Its should be only for a few months luckily..but I do think councils should look into issuing temp blue badges.
I agree, there should be temporary badges before and after op. I am sure it's something the council could do. They give them out to enough people who dont really need them after all!
Will call in council when I can and ask who I can complain to x
Hi Mary, I agree the parking spaces are so tight that it is difficult to park without getting your car scraped. I had mine scraped in Tesco car park so now I shop online. I suppose it would cause too much paperwork for temporary badges for the amount of people having these type of operations. It would help it the car parking spaces were larger, how people park with 4 wh.drive cars I don't know. Best Wishes Valerie
Thanks Valerie . I also my food shop on line but it's good to get out and about at last .
Hi Mary i am 6 weeks post op and on check the doctor has asked me to try driving but yet to try, wondering if we have to get into the car the same way we get into drivers seat as we get onto the passenger seat side.
Oh Mary - Been dealing with this now for two weeks. I have panic attacks every other day about this. I live in an apartment complex and never know who is going to park next to me. I park as close to the white line on the right just so i can open my door all the way, and wouldn't you know it, some person parks halfway in my spot!!! I leave 45 minutes early every day to find a spot on the end at the Physical therapy center .....most of the time i'm ok, but such wasted time over a simple parking space.... very frustrating....i do know how you feel....i felt alone on this topic. i was shocked when i found out that temporary badges were not available - rediculous
Hi Mary I applied for a blue badge back in September as my mobilty was so bad, which after an occupational assessment I was given with no problem, well I had to pay £10 for it. It lasts till 2017 but if imy mobility improves before that, then I am expected to give it back. I have to say it is a godsend, from when I first had it before the op and when I could no longer drive month before and 6 weeks after I could be driven closer to things using my blue badge, I am finding it very useful now as I can drive myself to places, park closer and as you say have plenty of room to get out. I parked in a normal space by accident today and had to move as I couldn't get out of the door. Yesterday there were no parking spaces at my hairdresser's so I could park on yellow line with my disabled badge and clock. You have to check with local council what you can and can't do with your badge and I applied online or you can ring local council. I do still have problem with unoperated leg as well.
Yes meena I walk backwards till I feel the seat then sit down and swivel legs around . Good luck
You are not alone it just feels like it sometimes doesn't it . Chin up x
