Hi Julie,
I also have tooth issues - discomfort, pain, sensibility. The problem started a few years back, after I took some chemo drugs to stop pulmonary fibrosis (at that time, they thought I had idiopathic fibrosis). Now that you mention tooth problems as a result of sarcoidosis, I wonder whether the dental problems I have relate to chemo drugs I took or to this terrible illness.
Here are some things that can help relieve tooth pain and discomfort:
- avoid very cold or hot foods/drinks
- buy soft toothbrushes (the hard ones can deteriorate tooth enamel)
- use Sensodyne Toothpaste - it has helped me a lot. I have been using it for several years now. A good idea (suggested by my dentist) would be to alternate normal Sensodyne toothpaste with the one that has fluoride. I did this, and now I can eat ice cream and drik hot tea with almost no pain.
- brush your teeth at least once a day.
- If you use mouthwash, go for a gentle one. I bought one from Sensodyne, and it is much better than the other brands.
- use dental floss to prevent tooth decay. your teeth are most probably very fragile now, so you can develop tooth decay very easily.
- visit your dentist regularly. s/he can address any dental problems before they become serious. when teeth are sensitive, other problems may appear, such as gum recession, gingivitis, periodontitis...
- have patience. It took me about one year to overcome tooth problems.
I hope these advices will help you address and solve yout tooth problems.
However, you should see your dentist. maybe he can recommend you something specific for your condition.
Good luck!
