Discouraged Depressed and many many regrets!

I don't want to bother everyone around me with my feelings. And I thought of writing what I am going through in this forum. I am almost 7 weeks post op LTHR posterior approach. I am not able to walk without my crutches. The pain is different than before the op but still there is pain. Back knee pelvis pain. Dic said all fine. Everyday when I wake up I feel the prosthesis. It's weird. regret a lot why I did this @#$$///@@# surgery. The only thing that is encouraging me is to have faith. That eveything will be alright. I will return to my old life soon. I discovered that I want to live and will fight till the end. Another thing is people...the look of pity when they see you. Poor Sareeta @ 33 years and crippled. My husband does not talk to me much. I am lucky that I have my parents taking care of me. I told my husband that I will divorce if he wants. He didn't reply. I miss my son since he is living with my husband.

I feel helpless and useless. If only I could go back in time...

so I decided to follow some Buddhists quotes

'The past cannot be changed'

Overthinking leads to unhappiness.

I play these in my mind when I am sad.

Sorry to hear you are going through a bad time but hopefully it will all be worth it in the end. How well were you able to walk & get on with your life before surgery?  You are very young so presume the surgeon felt a THR was the best option for you.

Sareeta

I am on week 7 too

Please don't be discouraged or depressed

You are over the big hurdle at this point

I went thru that feeling a big weight on my surgery side - it went away and every day is different

Do the therapy exercises daily and are easy to do at home - ice your hip when in pain too

I go to stores and walk around and sometimes use the cart for support so I don't use the cane

I went 2-3 years of constant pain before surgery and never wanting to go anywhere

My pain is less than before surgery so I'm hopeful everyday

I still walk w a limp and wobble

I feel stronger when I do the excersizes my doctor gave me

Hang in there - you will feel better

🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 bless you 😪 I'm 35 and coming up to week 5 this week . It's been a million times harder than I thought it would be . I'm sorry you're not getting support from your husband 😳, maybe he doesn't know what to say ? 🤔 He hasn't any idea what your going through after all and I think all this puts huge pressure on any marriage . I really think you need to see a really good physio 😍ASAP , this will make all the difference, it may just be 1 muscle that is too tight and causing a lot of problems. I'm a sports physiotherapist so please do take my advice. A GOOD PHYSIO!!!!!!!! Even if it costs you a fortune it's so important. 💜

It's very depressing to be like this but it WILL GET BETTER 🙏🏻🙏🏻

There is also a saying sareeta... Keep on keeping on .. In other words don't give up ! You are so soon out of surgery to be walking about like a youngster ... It's only 7 weeks !! I am coming up to 5 weeks and I cannot walk without crutches either plus we all heal at different rates . I think

The other stuff going on in the background of your life like your husband and missing your son make the hip seem worse ...

It's a shame you are suffering personally as well as physically .

Keep on keeping on and the hip will get better its early days ..,

Then you can have the strength to deal with the other aspects of your life . You will get there have faith ...

It takes up to a year to be fully recovered so be kind to yourself . Best wishes xxx

Hi, I'm on week 7 too and until a few weeks ago was wearing myself out trying to carry on as normal. Now if I'm tired I go to bed for an hour even if it's in the morning. Rest and relaxation will do you good even if you're just dozing, until you get your strength and proper sleep at night back. BW Lisa.

Hello Sareeta, im sorry u are going trough time i did as well im today 4 weeks still have some pain and still limping. This forum is so great they are give strings advice a try help u. Trust me. U aryoung and u will be ok. Chin up love Madla

Hi Sareeta,

Here's what I think.  Pre-op your pain would have got worse - much worse!  Post op it will get better.  We all have our different rates of recovery and 7 weeks is still very early, this is a huge and brutal surgery.  People don't know what to say to you when you appear so depressed and I'm sure that includes your husband.  A month or two down the line you will be feeling a different person.  You should be due your fist post-op check-up soon, discuss your feelings with your surgeon, I'm sure he will have words of encouragement.

I think our state of mind has a lot to do with our rates of recovery.  I know it's hard but please try to be more optimistic.  I felt my prosthesis for a while, when I was sitting and could also feel where the stem went into my femur.  This will all settle down.

Hi Sareeta

I'm on week 4 post op now and although progressing well still have good and bad days. Each day I try to set myself a challenge even if it's just a little thing. Today I managed to put on the Teds myself with the sockaid even though people told me it couldn't be done. I also loaded up the washing machine by throwing everything downstairs and then using the helping hand to throw them in the washing machine. That felt good 😊

I agree with you about people and how they interact when you are out on sticks. People can't seem to look you in the eye so now I just say hello with a big smile so they can't ignore me 😎

Thank you all for your sweet words. Tears were flowing while reading your comments. I feel a bit better and restarted meditation to calm myself. I have an image in my mind which is motivating me. Me in the driver seat and my little boy in his car seat...I will make this happen..

May you all be happy and healthy.

Everyone recovers at a different time. Took me 6 weeks to really start feeling better. Takes up to a year or longer to totally heal. I am now at the 1 year mark and forget the have an artificial hip. Just got back from a 5 day hunting trip where I walked at least 8 miles a day thru all terrain. I am a 66 year old male and had the posterior approach. A few weeks after I was also asking why I did this. Now so glad I did. Hang in there and do your exercises and walk

Thank you Steve. I will focus on exercises and took appointment for physiotherapy.

That's good to hear Steve. My hips started going down hill 2 years ago. a year ago I had to stop hunting. My tree stand is half a mile in the woods and I could only make it out there twice. I almost didn't make it out of the woods the second time. Thats when I called it quits. I got my right hip replaced in March and my left hip done 7 weeks ago. I'm having to sit inside for the second hunting season in a row and made an attempt at ice fishing last winter but that didn't work so I had to give it up for the season. I'm working on being in shape for this ice fishing season and trying to get my life back.

Hey

Susan

i chuck it down stairs and shove it in with the grabber stick too.. What inventive women we are lol. Sometimes the cat is sitting on the bottom step and he runs when it's suddenly raining Laundrey ... 😳😳😳

Hang on in there Sareeta, you will gradually start to feel better. It's still early days for you. I wish you well.

Hello

I had left hip revision that didn't go well . I have nerve damage from that surgery. Everyday say to myself stay positive. Your body has been through alot takes good 3 months until you start to feel better don't be so hard on yourself.

My life has changed I lost my job unable to work on my feet and 3 yrs. Later im still on disability .

My boyfriend and I are like roommates. All I can say is keep taking care of yourself, the rest will take care of itself. I went on antidepressant really helping me it took along time to agree to take it but once I did I started to feel better

Take care

Jackie.

Streets I know how you feel. I'm still struggling with my decision. I had surgery back in July, 3 weeks later it's dislocated! 2 days later I had hip revision. 6 weeks non weight bearing. I cried every day and I mean hard! I've been 3 weeks with physical therapy. I've seen improvement but not I'm dealing with nerves waking up, muscle pain & weakness, a very stiff joint, bursitis and possibly tendinitis! I'm like wth!! If only I knew! But like you said the past cannot be changed. I pray every day and ask for perseverance, hope & faith. It's a struggle but we can do it!!! I've wanted to give up, but I know that it will get better. Be kind to yourself, healing comes in different times, may not be as fast as we like. I'm sorry you have to deal with the looming decision of divorce especially during this time. But focus on you and your healing. Take care of you. Hopefully you can see your son and feel some happiness. Prayers going your way. Hugs 🤗 too. Hang in there it will get better!! Be patient and kind to you!! LD

hi sareeta,

I am checking in with you - How are you doing?

are you at your parents' house while recuperating ?

Please don't think that people pity you ...

you are NOT crippled - you had major invasive  Total  Hip Replacement surgery 7 weeks ago ... your body is doing her best to heal and needs time to do so -

and you probably really needed this surgery ; the alternative would have been a wheelchair

Using crutches at this moment is nothing to be ashamed of -

Keep having faith !!!

big warm hug

renee

I meant Sarreta!! Darn spell check! Soo sorry about that!!

Hi Renee,

Feeling better today. Yes am staying at my parents. Today I stayed with my brother and entertain me a lot. Took appointment with the physiotherapist next week. I will try not to be depressed as Monday. I just want to take care of my son..but can't. So after 7 weeks of not seeing him.it's hard. I never left him since he was born in 2014. My hip problem aggravated post pregnancy. I didn't know I had a dysplasia and things got bad since then.

But thanks to all those comments, I feel that am not alone. And it's not only me who get depressed after operation.

Thanks.
