Dislocated THR

On Feb 6 of this year I had a LTHR. Everything went great, I was out of the hospital the next day, my therapists were all amazed how well I did with therapy, and I was back at work within 9 weeks. The only issue I had was, I would experience a painful feeling in that region until I would move and then it felt like what ever was causing the pain would "pop" back into place I mentioned this issue to my surgeon and he dismissed it as a muscle or nerve getting in a bind. May 5 my THR dislocated. My Dr is can not assure me that it will not dislocate again. If it does, or I continue to have issues I am looking at a revision. I am extremely swollen this morning is this normal? Should I have to pay for the revision surgery if it comes to that?

Hi poor you.It can take up to a year to get back to normal.Have you tried Hydrotherapy? What does your phsyio Suggest? Where did you have the Op? Reflexology is also very helpful with OA.regards Amanda h

Hi,

Sorry to hear that you are having these issues.  To answer your questions:

1. Yes, swelling is likely if your hip keeps popping out.  I would rest it and make sure that you keep your hip iced.

2. Do you remember all those papers you signed prior to having surgery?  Those are put in place to help protect the doctor if things go wrong.  If you end up needing a revision, it's extremely likely that you will have to pay again.

Morning...so sorry to hear of your misfortune. I had a hip replacement back in July 3 weeks later I find I dislocated my hip two days later I'm having to have a total hip revision 6 weeks nonweightbearing no hip exercising and no hip flexion past 80° Worst six weeks of my life to be honest. I was walking on this dislocation for over a week. I'm still struggling but doing about 80% better. Am still limping and combatting nerve pain in thigh. I had to have 2 injections to the cutaneous nerve in thigh. Had given me 80% relief thank God!! Nerve pain like that is so excruciating and uncomfortable. Anything that touched my thigh was terrible. Even my very soft blanket. I know I was charged for both surgeries. Different hospital too. Was happier with second hospital as care was a lot better. Also had to go to rehab for 2 weeks. I know dr tried to pop joint back in, called a closed reduction, but joint was caught up on cup. First surgery was anterior, second surgery he had to lift buttock off 😖 Dealing with butt cheek pain too. I'm 9 months out and still healing. I was given 90 degree precaution still. I tell you sometimes everything that I do I get scared thinking oh my God I did something to my hip!! I run back to my bed I check the lengths of my legs and sigh a relief, they're still the same!! I've been babying it somewhat helping in August when I see him for my one year anniversary that he will lift the 90. But in meantime I'm limited but at same time nervous I have another dislocation. wishing you all the best. A revision is not easy. Healing is longer. Let us know how you are doing. Hugs 🤗LD. God's blessings to you.
