Hello,
I broke my fifth metatarsal at the shaft area. It is slightly displaced. It has been four weeks since I broke it. I have been in an air cast and non weight bearing. Since this happened there has been pain and a lot of tingling feeling in my foot and it travels up my ankle a bit. I have a high pain tolerance and injuries have never bothered me before. It makes me wonder if it is healing.
How did your metatarsal fracture feel at 4 weeks. Was there a lot of numbness and tingling? I was told I can start to walk on it in a week. I will start with the boot on then progress. Any advice? How did long did it take to heal others shaft fractures?
Thanks
Mine still has not healed. Hurts soo bad especially after working all day and standing on it. Have sharp, burning pain most of the time. The xrays show it healed after 6 weeks but it still hurts a lot. I go back in a coulle weeks. Still have the aircast to wear but nit sure what the next step will be.
Well, I am right where you are at week 4. I am told end of next week when I visit my physician, that I should be able to walk in my boot and I suspect that will be painful. I did not have a displacement because mine was a stress fracture. It only gets a bit painful when I have had it dangling a few hours. Otherwise, I have had no pain which makes it difficult to stay off of it. I guess each one is different. I am also 67 and quit physical. keep us informed on your progress!!
I am at week 15.in the beginning I was on strong painkiller 4 times a day after 3 to 4 weeks they were cut back to morning and evening then evening only before 6 week's I was taking none at all I was in airboot for 10 weeks non weight bearing then 2 weeks partial weight baring then 2 weeks in shoes walking with 2 cruches now walking with one cruche outside and walking short distance in house with no cruches when foot swells or get sore I elevat it and put Ice pack on .everyone is different circulation in feet is not goods so it is a hard bone to heal.don't rush it will heal.
Thanks for that. I was getting worried it was more than that.
Of course we had to break an unusually difficult bone to heal because of low blood supply. Thanks so much for sharing!!! It helps!!
