Ditropan (Oxybutynin) 5mg - anyone tried it?

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forums and I just wanted to ask about something. I have an enlarged prostate (volume is apparently 47cc) and I have an appointment ready to go with a urologist but I can’t see them until February next year. So being desperate for relief from symptoms (urinary urgency etc), I visited my doctor, who suggested I try Ditropan (Oxybutynin 5mg tablets). I’m a couple of weeks away from turning 50.

I’ve read through the side effects and they have left me a little worried…well, not a little, a lot. I also have ulcerative colitis and this has come up in the “do not take” part of the medicine information. The swelling in the throat and other effects is a bit scary to be honest.

I’m just wondering if anyone here has been on this and should I go ahead and try it despite the warnings and the contraindications with ulcerative colitis. If I can’t go on this is there anything else I can try? 6 months before I can see a urologist is also weighing heavily on my mind.

Thanks heaps for any advice.

Hi Frank. I did take it for about 5 days after my Aquablation surgery, It was prescribed to prevent bladder spasms. It did work for that, and the only side effect I noted at the time was that it caused a dry mouth, eyes and nasal passages. I guess it is possible that there were other side effects, that were not noticed by me since it was post surgery and i only took it for a few days.

Hi,
I just got Oxybutynin 5mg to relieve bladder spasms (I am a male) from indwelling catheter. It worked wonder. You might have to consult the doctor if it has any side effects on ulcerative colitis.

Six months to see a Urologist? Where do you live…

Sydney Australia..I’ve been trying to see if I can see them much sooner than that..

Thanks Randy, I appreciate the post.

Hi Kev, that’s very reassuring, thanks for that, I appreciate it.

Yikes…I’m sorry to hear that…my son-in-law is from New Zealand.
