I've had DV for 11 years now and so far have escaped surgery ( the doctors told a major op within the next 5 years would have to be done, that was when diagnosed). I understand the symptoms quite well now but have just started what I think is a flare up although a little different. I have a dul ache in my left side unless pressed in the local area which then hurts like hell, also if I crunch myself up and lastly when I need to urinate its like 'got to go now' then it takes for ever to go. Anyone had anything similar?
I also read a report that DV could be caused by over production of stomach acid and not the low fibre theory, I have a hyatus hernia and get terrible reflux etc, been on tabs since my 30's. Last week I had the cough cold throat thing that is going around and was put on antibiotics, these caused the reflux to get really bad, burning stomach etc and know I have a flare up, coincidence?
I think there maybe something in this as I have always eaten plenty of fibre since I was little but have always suffered with 'acid'.
Sorry this is a bit long but thought I'd get this out of my head and see if anybody else has had similar?
Hi - I have exactly the same symptoms - left sided dull ache but big pain when I press on it. I also have a hiatus hernia and suffer stomach acid so you could be right in this regard although I strongly believe mine started after I invested in a power plate exercise machine which shook my body to bits and I think might have aggravated the diver to an extent it turned into diverticulits because I never had a flare up before this that I know of - but then maybe I did and just didn't recognise the symptoms. Heavy exercise certainly makes mine worse but good point about the stomach acid. My digestion doesn't actually need a lot of fibre otherwise I am too bad the other way.
I was first diagnosed with a UTI, hospital, intro antibiotics etc and sent home, had another attach, worse this time and with loads of tests and 5 days in hospital they told me I have a seriuos amount of diverticular. This all came out of the blue but I do find I can't do sit ups or any exercise tht involves crunching up. I agree with the fibre, it makes me worse if I increase it. Also I found to avoid spicy foods and strangley enough cooked tomatos like spagetti sauce.
I have the sameI take acid tablet every day still waitup sometimes with the acid making me sick and your systems sounds like mine. I am in the middle of a flair up at the moment and the antibiotics makes me feel so sick and gives me such pains in the head this one came on so quickly polly
