Diverticulitis-Should I stop taking antibiotics

I am new to this site but started having abdominal cramping on July 3rd and stayed home the entire weekend with cramping, bloating, stomach distended and feeling terrible. I went to the doctor on July 7th and was diagnosed with diverticulitis. I was given Cipro and Flagyl.  I cannot get too far from the restroom because of somewhat diarrhea.  Should I stop the medication as I read diarrhea is a side effect?

Hi Pam, I am also having this as a side affect from the antibiotics. So not stop taking them though- you need them to fight the infection. I have found that a liquid diet lessons the trips to the toilet. Get some rehydration sachets to replace the salt in your body and try and drink as much as you can. Sleep when your body tells you too. I feel your pain as I'm suffering with my 6th flare up in the last year!

You need to rest the bowel. Clear liquid diet for several days then low fibre and very small amounts. A probiotic to put back the good bactsria that the antibiotics are killing along with the infection. Wat h out fof any of the side effects on the cipro patient info insert and be aware that this drug can give delayed effects that come on several weeks or even months later like tendon problems and neuropathy. But the important thinv is resti g the bowel and gourself. lo

Thanks for your response.  I am afraid of c-diff as my mother passed away just over a month ago from other issues but I was her caregiver during the time she had c-diff.  My symptoms (yuky diarrhea) are similar

to my mom.  cry
