Diverticulitis sufferer for 15 years, age 53

Feel constantly fobbed of by the medical profession as I present as having constant low grade infections, this condition is horrible, I am luckily a very positive person and get on with my life but recently the last six months or so my condition has become chronic with symptoms most weeks. The medical profession do not know how to help just giving constant antibiotics, I follow a separation diet not mixing carbs and protein, avoid dairy, and limit my alcohol, all to no avail. i am  interested in hearing from other sufferers of any suggestions to help many thanks

Hello, you really have to put this situation into perspective,,and not let it take

over your entire life.... The medics of this world have NO cure for any of us,,

so,we all have to take charge of ourselves.

You should know by now that antibiotics will destroy your immune system, that is why you are open to any old bug you come into contact with.

Your obsession with  your ""Diet"" is of little use. You just have to change

your lifestyle,  and eat little and often and chew everything, well. If you feel

a flare beginning, eat porage, made with milk, loads of sachet boxes out

there. Take 3 a day, and lots to drink,,, NOT ALCOHOL. rest if it possible.

Stressing out does  not help, Take Acidophilus with pectin  2 a day, it fights

the bad bugs. I started a forum about 2 years ago, which still runs, and is a happy forum.with lots of suggestions from other sufferes, and was a great help to me,, It's called DIVI DINERS    Google is the best place to find it..

There you are then,, lots of suggestions for you, No one ,,but no one is

going to wave a magic wand and make you better, You have to be in charge

of everything.  I take Paracetamol if I get a tickle,, go to bed for a couple of

days, until it goes away. I have certainly not let it worry me anymore.

It's up to you now..

You need to restore your good bacteria with a probiotic . Try aloe vera juice to help the inflammation. Diet is important as you need to eliminate triggers. Everybody is different. My worst trigger is tough red meat but I also avoid seedy stuff like raspberries, strawberries ,figs. I deseed tomatoes. Avoid too much wholewheat bread or pasta as this makes for larger stools which distended the colon.

Contrary to the received wisdom that high fibre is best this advice is probably responsible for causing divvy at earlier and earlier ages. Soluble fibre as found in veggies is much better than the insoluble type found in wholewheat.

Hi there,

firstly I think that I have things in perspective and I do recognise that there are no easy answers, my diet is something that has been researched for diverticulitis and it has worked well for me. I believe we all have different issues to do with our digestive systems and I am merely asking for any helpful thoughts from sufferers, I do try when having an attack to drink liquids and porridge and keep a low fibre diet thereafter.
