Dizziness cured

Hello people, I wonder if my experience can be of help to others.

Every morning without fail I would start to experience light- headedness and dizziness that would last about an hour.

Other symptoms were headaches, a feeling of tight skin on my shins and a watery left eye and the eyeball feeling 'hard'

I am a 70 year old male with enlarged prostate. I ride a motorcycle everyday and play golf.

I endured these dizzy spells for about a year and decided to try and get to the bottom of it.

I looked at the medication I was taking and checked on-line for side-effects. Only one showed up as having possible dizziness as a side effect.

I asked my doctor about the meds and he confirmed that the beta blocker I was referring to was merely treating the effects of the enlarged prostate rather than trying to cure the problem.so any reduction in dosage should not be detrimental to myself. He was sceptical but did not discourage me from my 'trial'.

I was on 0.4 mg a day so I reduced this by half.

I stayed on this dose for a month without any problems. I still had the 'dizzy hour' but it seemed less severe

I then reduced the dose by half again

I was now on a quarter tablet a day

After another month I decided to reduce the dose again. The tablet was now too small to bisect any further so I went to a quarter of a tablet every 2 days.

One month later I tried a quarter of a tablet every 3 days but I started getting problems with the prostate and went back to every 2 days.

I decided this was my optimum dosage and have stuck with it ever since.

I still had my dizzy hour but carried on with my life.

About 3 months later as I was riding to the Golf Club I sudenly realised that the dizzy spells were longer with me.

I can only guess that the overdosed meds had finally left my system.

I have  free of the dizzy hour for about 6 months and thought it was time to share my experience.

Good luck to you all

Very good sharing Michael;

Perhaps we should all at least think about our daily habits and intakes.  I only have one prescription drug I am taking, but this brings to mind all the "other" ways we supplement or medicate ourselves.  I know I was taking a statin for a while and had some fairly substantial physical reactions which I would not have thought to attribute to medications . . . I just wouldn't.  A friend suggested it and I stopped taking the drug and the symptoms went away.

This has also started me thinking about alcohol, vitamins, foods I believe I need daily, etc.

Just more thoughts as I pay attention !!  ;-)

Still dizzy  ;-)(

Hi Michael

Thank you for trying.  I was prescribed beta blockers as a cure for the dizziness but it didnt work.  The coincidence for me was I came off HRT and have been asking to go back on just to see if it works.  Other than that, I dont ride a bike or play golf or have a prostrate so nothing there !  Havent quite lost my sense of humour, well not today anyway.  Some days better than others.  I dont drink or smoke but this did start with the death of the last remaining member of my family so was very stressed and upset and its not stopped since.  Ive heard a general aneasthetic can sometimes stop it.  Bit drastic though - although I dont know would be worth it !

Hi Paula, Ironic that you were prescribed the very meds to try and cure your problem that I believe were the cause of mine.

I have a lady friend who was being treated for years for her problems.

( unrelated to dizziness ) I suggested when she visited her son in Frankfurt she took the opportunity to have a full blood test in a private clinic.

The result being, they asked her if she knew she has Systemic Lupus. It was such a relief to her to know what she was up against.
