Dizziness more when walking

Hi. I'm really hoping someone out there can share the same or similar story. so for The last few months I’ve suffered with dizziness that comes and gos. I’ve put it down to my ears as I suffer with tinnitus but more recently I’ve been getting it quite bad when I’m walking or in crowded places which then causes my anxiety to go through the roof. It’s a strange feeling that is hard to explain but it’s almost like a sharp bout of dizziness and ringing feeling in my ear then goes in seconds. Has anyone else suffered this?

Do yourself a favor and google balance disorder doctors in your area. A regular ent has a hard time figuring out what is wrong.

hi Laura l had all the test done for my my ears come back all clear .l was like you felt wores in crows like supermarkets l felt like walking on a trampoline and dizziness .Do you have anxiety before this started? l never had the spinning sensation .They sent me for vestibular exercises which did help l seen a specialist he told me it’s Anxiety and stress building up in my body l had a trauma in my life . Do you feel like you turning to the left or right? This is vestibular exercises what they gave me .

Hi Victoria,

Yes this is exactly how I am feeling especially walking in places like supermarkets!

I suffer with really bad anxiety so could it be that? Do you get ringing in your ears?

The falling to the side is definitely something I suffer with too!

I’m also getting the feeling of falling forward when I’m sat. Do you get that?

to me its anxiety , all the symptoms you have described or used to get them. Can you do this for me ( stand on a cushion how close your eyes count to 15 have you started to sway?are you on any medication for your anxiety? l get ringing in my ears .

I suffer as well…even when laying down… it’s difficult living this way. I take meclizine and do my best to ignore the feeling of swaying! has increased with anxiety for sure. i want you to know that you are not alone!!

Yes definitely get the swaying when stood closing my eyes. What does that mean?

I always thought the ringing in my ears was making the dizziness.

I’ve never looked into my anxiety so I’m going to the gp Monday to discuss.

The first time the dizzy spell happened in the supermarket I actually had a panic attack so that would seem linked?

It is just awful. Do you get the sense of your head falling forward at all?

For some reason I dizzy in supermarkets too. My vision feels off and I get floaters in vision sometimes. I’m 56 and have lived like this for many years. Its nice to talk with others for reassurance

yes I do!!
anxiety is what my drs have told me. also, propranol is a medication that helps…do you hear your heart beat in your ears ?

constant ringing in my ears…
yes i swayed while on cushion

did anything happen to you in your passed to cause your anxiety? you not born with aniexty. What dose are you on and how long have you been on it?

my mother had anxiety…siblings as well…i believe i was born with the high anxiety genes…my levels go crazy in stressful times such as going to a medical dr (i fear medical drs) … my childhood was traumatic but made me a survivor not a victim. i get anxious out of the blue…can last months… its like a rollercoaster ride…lately ive been feeling the doom but i cant say what teiggers me. im on clonazapam (.5mg) once a day and prozac. what really helps is trying to “get out of my head” by talking aboyt my anxiety, forcing myself to walk even if its a 20 minute walk and accepting that this is what I have…plus my husband took a job in another STATE to come home on weekends- a wonderful job but i miss him and one of our sons is in early recovery opiate addiction- therapy helps too but there are days i feel defeated

l understand were you coming from l could feel my body rocking when I’m sitting in the chair it gets wores in the evening ever evening .They put me sertarline it as helped . There a group called Let’s talk anxiety if you like to join ? I’m on the group.

yes i get ot too , plus brain fog and blurring of vision sometimes . I was diagnosef with vestibulsr migrainrs

yes you are right Laura Anxiety and stress can affect your balance
system l seen a ENT he told me to march on the spot with my arms out straight we my eyes closed count to 30 when l open my eyes l turn to the left you should stop in the centre if you do that l bet you turn to the left or right laura . Have a word with your doctor x

same with me

how do I join?

Hi Laura,
I can totally sympathize. I was under a lot of stress for a long time and I think that caused a lot of anxiety for me which in turn caused my symptoms. I have dizziness, blurry vision, clogged feeling and ringing in my ears, trouble with balance and walking for about 7 years now. Certain lights and weather changes can make it worse, and it has been hard to do a lot of things I normally did, was always pretty active before this started. I’m lucky I work from home, because I would be too dizzy to go out to work.

Sometimes I get headaches with this, but most of the time the dizziness is the worst problem. I have been through a lot of studies over the years, total ENT workup and neurology workup including MRI of the brain and brain stem, all negative. Neurologist and ENT both diagnosed me with vestibular migraine with the symptoms I have, which do fit that diagnosis, but I would say it mostly started with stress and anxiety.

There are so many causes for dizziness, but I really think anxiety plays a major part. I just read this great book, Badass Ways to End Anxiety & Stop Panic Attacks by Geert Verschaeve, which I got from Amazon.com, that really helped me deal with the anxiety and I hope will eventually help get rid of a lot of my other symptoms. I just started trying his techniques and I feel calmer and more able to deal with the dizziness.

I would say go to an ENT doc or neurologist and see what they say, but many of them don’t seem to understand what we are going through. My general practitioner prescribed Xanax, which has helped me through the worst times as benzodiazepines calm the vestibular system and help with the anxiety, too.

Good luck to you, and don’t give up hope, as I am sure with the right therapy and possibly medication, we can conquer these disabling symptoms.

Yes I do get that just not as bad as the ringing.

I believe I am grinding my teeth too without realising. Do you get this at all?
