Dizziness way too long.....

Can't believe this is happening to me &/or anyone else.. Awful & the dizzy & spacey head is part of my daily life.  I have been seen by ENT doc, twice & he sent me to neurosurgeon (hve bad neck) after brain mri & Cat scan that doc said he didn't believe prob came from neck.  (get plenty of headaches)  My hope is in the neurologist I will see tomorrow. But who knows.  I am a older person & yrs ago I had BPV but that is not what this is.....I had lunch with my friend today & truthfully was not enjoyable,  I was going through the motions.  I need a diagnosis.  Thanks for listening.  Marie

I don,t know what country you are in but the neurologist may be of help, although i really think I you should be seeing a Neurologist Otologist. I saw a neurologist and they didn't,t help much. But thenOtologist  one did many more detailed tests. It could still be connected to your BPPV, and progressed into, something else, so make sure you tell theNeiro about it, and ifmyoumhave little joy from him or,her, ask,to,seemthemN.Otologist okay? Momma also,in the older generation so know  where you re coming  from!!

Excuse typos but it,s hot and am struggling with keyboard today!

I agree an otologist is the best route - I had 3 hours of testing a week or so ago and came away with a load of balance rehabilitation exercises, he was pretty sure it was vestibular neuritis dragging on for 5 months. I have developed some health or just general anxiety during this period which hasn't helped as the two feed off each other.

You mention Marie you are an older person - have they checked blood pressure and heart efficiency at all? I guess your GP was satisfied the dizzyness didn't come from a cardio related problem?

Good luck tomorrow.

Aww it is awful Marie x. I hope you get some answers after tomorrow. I can't even get a scan on my back ( unless I fall or something similar!!). Nothing from my doc been living with imbalance for years now. Have decided to bite the bucket and have got myself a wee part time job which I start next week ... God only knows how that will go if at all but I am sick of being stuck at home for the last 5 years. I want my independence back! Xx

i also have a bad neck with bulging neck disc and i certainly think it affects my balance as could possibly be causing vascular problems to blood flow, but i also have recurring BPPV and MAV vertigo as a diagnosis.  Discounting neck problems is unhelpful as i think it does play a part.

Hi,

I am in the  US --is this a UK site?  Thanks all for responding.  Not sure what a Otologist is or does or have one in this city?.  It helps to have people that have a clue what I am going through.  Would like to hear any suggestions anyone might have....I had brain & head scans & MRI.  Poor hubby just doesn't know how to help.  Thanks again.

Marie

Hi,

What kind of test did the Otologist do for you?

Yes Trevis, I saw my cardiologist yesterday.  He is not sure what I have or IF it will go away.  But then it is not his field.  Sometimes I feel I will lose my sanity.  My doc gave me anti-depressants.  I didn't start them because they may add to the discomfort.?

Did they give you any medication?  Oh & back in Feb--I had vestibular therapy & thought I was better & so I stopped going.  It is expensive as insurance does not pay it all.

Marie you GP will  know what a Neuro Otologist is.  If you google that, you will  get an explanation .What city are you in please?

Hi Anne ,been having heck of a problem with this site ,left it for 2 weeks ,now back on tonight ,here I go again .

Your still in same position nothing changed ,me to gets you down for sure .

I was sat outside this morning in the shade ,came over odd ,went into kitchen ,felt like I was going to flake out ,managed to get into where husband was ,told him didn't feel right ,luckily it passed after 15 mins ,been sat quiet rest of day .First time that's ever happened, scary to say the least ,my tinnitus has been bad ,bad of late ,plus the Mdds havoc ,so don't know what that's was all about ,my daughter said tonight ,drop in BP ,she's had it .Hope not something else starting off ,all I want .

How you managing at work Anne ? You still managing to drive around okay ?Think of you ,even when I'm not on here ,old timers at this ,you know what I mean .xx

Hi Travis ,good for you going and getting part time job ,hope maybe that will help ,is it a stand or sitting job ?

I was telling Anne what my day was like ,don't know ,always something .im on a BP med only 50 mgs ,which I take at night ,could have been a combination ,weather heat ,caused a quick drop in BP .Menopause still going on ,could be that .

Let's know how you get on next week xx

Hi Marlene,

I'm new here but I have sympathy for anyone with these terrible symtoms.  It causes bad anxiety when things go on & on & never get resolved!

Take care.

Hi Marlene,  sorry you've been feeling rough.  My tinnitus has been on high for a while now too.  I've recently bought my own BP machine as mine was quite high when the GP checked it recently but i told him that's cos i get anxious at the doctors.  Been checking it myself and it's pretty good, but always have a high pulse which i think is normal for me.  i've had a few other health problems lately and thankfully been feeling much better on the dizzy front, which is good as I was totally inside an MRI scanner yesterday for another investigation for a gyane problem.  They infused a dye into me towards the end of an hour of imaging and i felt as though i were going to pass out but managed to get through it.   I got out of the scanner though and i was all over the place cos' the sound it makes affects ears and the IV infusion made me feel sick.

I've been OK with my driving but had a chat with Occupational Health who said i should be assigned to desk duties if i feel unable to drive.  If i felt unable to drive then i wouldn't drive but it's good to know i have that to fall back on if i'm having a real dizzy day.

This past month i feel with all the other problems i have going on, possible kidney infection and gynae problem that i have gone past my sell by date, thankfully feeling OK on the dizzies past few weeks, but that is so unpredictable i enjoy the good days/weeks when i get them and try not to worry about when it might next kick off again,

Take care and when you feel like you're going to flake out try to remember to take lots of deep breaths to get more oxygen circulating and also lie down before you collapse.  Always good advice to avoid causing further injury.  xx

Hello Marie ,glad you found this site ,got lots on it ,no doubt you've had a good look at the various threads on health issues ,females are good at finding out answers ,or they go looking for the help ,then place them up on this site .So fair choice of ailments to look at .

I'm the same as Gillian ,had this now for 4 yrs ,Anne and Travis fairly long time also ,miseable condition to be dealing with .Stay looking in .Regards

Hi Anne ,sorry about your problems to ,like you I've got the Gyne going on as well ,uncomfortable every day ,had couple check ups done ,See how this white coat has an affect on females ,terrible ,but if it was my daughter ,Im straight on her case ,that was a long MRI job ,when do you get those results ,think the waiting is horrendous .Let me know how things went ,don't forget .

That MRI machine is noisy ,if you've got tinnitus and have to go in it ,the bang ,bang of it ,25 mins was ample enough ,so take my hat of to you for doing an hour.

Id take the surgerys offer up on a desk job ,especially when not balancing so good .they say this Mdds can go ,but not holding my breath after 4 yrs of having it ,like you still have this really painful neck ache ,put cold bag of peas on it regularly to ease it off ,They got you on antibiotic for kidney infection ,? Your not in good place by sounds of it Anne .

Still think my neck can be at the root of my balance ,ever since I had that osteopath visit that Saturday for my sinuses ,he tweaked my neck out ,plus I had those bones out  maybe he done that at same time .No way to prove that now ,but hey look at mess it's left me alone in .

We've all had neck probs with the balance ,and we're all still in the dark ,one girl I know has just been told she has Graves ,she has balance trouble ,sad ,but least now she has her diagnosis ,Wish someone had the answer for all of us .

Hope I get no more probs of this site ,wonder how Darrens doing Anne ,did look for him ,hope he's doing good ,seemed happier last time we spoke ,his varifocals and all .

Yes Anne I should lay down never had that as such  but I did feel quite odd ,scary it was ,must eat something my daughter said get my sugar up first thing ,as I hate to eat breakfast ,so a banana I could just about manage .

Happy Days Anne ,forgot what those were ,don't we all I hear you say 😛X X

Oh Marie 04645, perhaps I should code this by saying Jon 12945, if you know what I mean. I had this terrible VN two years ago almost to the day and it followed the pattern of violently ill for one day, dizzy for weeks thereafeter and then thankfully disappeared entirely. 10 days ago it returned with a vengeance and this time I thought, I can handle this without going to hospital by ambulance again, just tough it out, and as you know, tough it is. I have drank heaps of water (I do believe that we are fighting a virus) watched my diet for the same reason and get out there and stagger my way for an 8 kilometre walk along the beach every second day, that considering sideways steps, is probably closer to ten kilometres as well as the embarrassment of people thinking that I have started drinking too early in the day. The other afternoon, due to just being around the shortest day of the year, it became dark on my return trip and I cannot start to say how frightening that was without the normal visuals to help my balance. But, I live in hope that, whilst having the occasional headache (I use 1 anti inflamatory tablet) and feeling at times that my head has been pumped up with a bike pump, the symptoms will abate as they did last time. I am not sure if you have studied the diagram of the inner ear and the nerve that takes the balance neurons to the brain (my lay terminology) but it does explain how serious our illness is and makes me so mad at those who suggest that we just shake it off and battle on, not that easy I'm afraid. If you wish Marie, I can give you follow up as to what I did last time (not much I'm afraid other than meds) and how I am progressing this time around. Get well wishes from me to you and all of our fellow sufferers. Jon

Hi Marlene

i'm just off to work.  I struggle to eat breakfast too, not a breakfast person either but could probably manage half a banana if pushed  YOur daughters right though, we should really eat breakfast.

I totally understand how you feel about the osteopath, cos' it was about one week after having some physio for my neck 2 years ago that all my balance problem started.  As you say i can't prove it but it seems a big co-incidence.

Hi Anne ,hope your work day went okay ,soon be retired ,just treading water till you stop ,become lady of leisure as myself ,Watching the Tennis ,bag peas on my neck ,looks like rain ,but hey it's Wimbledon fortnight .Least that sun and heat has abated ,hate heat ,sinuses don't like it nor the tinnitus ,today that's low ,so balance way off ,Rocking away as Im sat here ,that only happens if my tinnitus is low and ears are muffled ,so over and in the head hissing today ,not coming out of the ears .

Saying to my husband how we both went to osteopath and this balance began ,he said got to be something in that ,wonder how many of us got it only after an osteopath ,to much of a coincidence as you've said ,swear he tweaked my neck out ,for those sinuses .Went in on that Saturday fine ,come The Monday I was all over the shop .been this way ever since ,but how can you prove any of it ,but that gut feeling tells me that's what's done this ,even had those 2 bones put back in after that CT scan ,maybe earlier scan  may have sorted this ,who knows Anne .Always had neck ache since that virus kicked everything off .Regrets like going to that osteopath .Not forgetting this damn anxiety ( Gyne ) IBS came into play at same time ,never had that prob prior in all my years .Yes what a mess ,totally life changing for sure .Sad reading of others having this ,all seem to run the same vein of onset to it .Like Jon saying to Marie ,it's a neck virus ,I agree with that totally as to its starting point .that's the connection in all of us even to the other sites wether it be tinnitus or the balance .

Well back to Andy Murray ,Im after a Fedderer to win this year ,my all time favourite .got the Tour de France on Saturday Great love that ,only 2 sports I watch .Football big yawn .xx
