Hello friends, does anyone else suffer with dizzy spells when standing. The first day out of hospital I fainted, very scary, considering I landed full force on my new hip, I came out virtually unscathed. 💝
Strangely enough, I met a friend today who is a few months past her THR. Having had mine 4 weeks ago, we were comparing notes. She told me that the blood thinners the hospital gave her made her really dizzy and she nearly fell downstairs in the first week. She saw her GP and he changed the prescription which solved the problem. Something to consider perhaps? Good luck.
I do. Its gets worse when im tired. Iv had 6 hours sleep over the last 3 days and get incredibly dizzy if i stand up to quickly or for to long.
Its probably because we are feeling so crap aha xx

do you still have these dizzy spells? how is your bloodpressure?
can also be a side effect of one of your medications ...or maybe you are anemic?

I did when in hospital the first time - I soon learnt what the warning signs were, caused by low blood pressure, but not had any problems since.
We do lose quite a bit of blood with the operation, I had a wound drain too, but they replaced that back into my system to keep me topped up.

Oh my goodness, that sounds very very scary. I couldn't eat for a weekafter surgery due to the narcotics. I was VERY unsteady on my feet. Just go slow and use a walker if you can. The good news is that the surgery is over!!!

I fainted in hospital the day after my op, a combination of bad reaction to morphine and low blood pressure. Occasionally now, 3 months post op, I go dizzy if I stand up too quickly. I have been this way for some time though, the drugs used to treat my high blood pressure sometimes work too well.
Good that your new hip didn't buckle under the pressure

I am seeing my gp at the moment because I am lightheaded and have dizzy spells. .sometimes, like today, I am not confident enough to go out and drive. .
Tomorrow I will get a 24 hour thingy to monitor my blood pressure. ..apparently the medication I was on might cause the blood pressure medication to not work properly. .
it feels as if my BP drops but in the doctor's office it was high...

Funny you mention that! In general i dont suffer any dizzy spells. However when I am out walking (on crutches at the moment) and I look left to right when crossing the road, I become very dizzy and feel like I am about to lose my ballance. I saw someone mention in the above posts that it might be the blood thinners. I hadnt thought of that and i guess it would make sense....

Are you still on blood thinners David? I only had to take them for two weeks post-op.
Hello Steph, I had a feeling it was the blood thinning injections that where causing the fainting spells, but needed to hear that other people where experiencing the same, just to put my mind at rest that there wasn't anything seriously wrong. I have to be very careful when standing, I might not be so lucky with another fall. Thank you for your support. Best wishes. 💖
Hello Sarah, yes I think your right, feeling crap has a lot to do with it. Yet again this forum has put my mind at rest. Don't know where I'd be without it. Hope you manage to get some much needed sleep. I've got a pillow under my leg length ways from my knee to my foot and it has taken all the pressure off my hip. Give it a go. All the best.💝
I did that at the beginning of my recovery but put it under my thigh as the pain from my muscles was to much for me to cope haha but i always sleeo with a folded up blanket at the end of the bank to put my feet on.
Yes this site is incredibly good for that but can also make you frustrated and upset haha.

hello renee, yes I'm still getting dizzy spells. I've had my blood pressure checked and temperature, all seems fine. I think it might be due to the blood thinners as others have suggested. I think I underestimated how weak I was. I'll have to try to take it a little easier, not very good at relaxing I'm afraid. Thank you again for your support renee. Best wishes.💖
Hello graham, I also had a wound drain and when they removed it, it wouldn't stop bleeding, ended up in a pool of blood in bed. When I went to have my dressing changed it was still bleeding, so they put a butterfly stitch over it. I don't ignore the signs anymore, if I feel dizzy when I stand up, I sit back down till it passes, hopefully won't make the same mistake twice. Thank you again for your support. Best wishes.💝
Hello cindy, it was very scary. When I came to, my craggy leg was at a strange angle, thought I'd messed it up for sure, fortunately I got off lightly. I am very careful now, if I feel dizzy when I stand up, I sit back down till it passes. I always try to push myself too far, I've learnt my lesson. I'm having to take asprin every day as a blood thinner up until the 6 week mark. I doubt its as strong as the injections I was getting in the hospital, however I guess it will still be having some sort of affect.
At least you didn't do what I did the first time ... I threw the blanket off, and it pulled the drain right out . Frantic nurses came to sort me out.
Nope, not a good move, I expect you where a bit more careful after that. xxx
