Dizzyness

i am just over 2 weeks post of, had my staples out on Wednesday. I had problems at the hospital thought I was going to pass out, dizzy nauseous, weakness in arms and legs. Specialist says it is a build up of acid. Have had another episode again today. Both times I end up with a very bad headache and extreme tiredness. Does this sound right. The hip itself is relatively pain free. But I wonder is I am doing too much or not enough, any help would be appreciated

I should have also added, my operation was performed in Greece following a fall, I was not allowed out of bed until 6 days after the op. I am a 58 year old female who suffers with osteoporosis. Many thanks

Hello Elaine, welcome to our forum, well sounds strange to me, are you on very stong painkillers IE. narcotics? are you still in greece or back in the UK, I did not experience this , so all I can think of is side effects of drugs, I can't think how a build up of acid would cause this, does he mean uric acid or stomach acid? are you on any other meds? sorry to be nosey, but I need a bit more info.

regards,

Lynne

Dizziness can be caused by low blood pressure.low blood count that is anemia.

Pain medication can also cause lightheadedness.

Hi Lynne, I actually live in Greece, I am taking no pain medication at all, haven't been for about 7 days now, the pain from the op is very little.  The acid he was referring to is lactate acid, and I'm not sure if this means that perhaps I have been overdoing things. I am not the worlds most patient, patient. The only other medication I take is fosamax and vitamin D.

As already said, it could be due to a drop in blood preasure, either through anxiety or sitting up quickly so take your time. The other simple remedy you could try is eating a banana daily, your potassium might have been low and would give the symptoms you describe, nanas are K+ full. Hope you feel better soon, Dot x

Hi elaine

If it is lactic acid I would make sure it is not celulitis. This is a seroius skin infection and if it is left it could cause you real problems. If you press the swollen skin does it hurt / have a burning sensation ?

If so you might have celulitis and I would go to your doctor or even the hospital at A & E and get some antibiotics ASAP

good morning elaine ...

I am lightheaded and dizzy as well but think it is the meds I am on ... Catch 22 this one - if I don't take them I am in pain - don't have weakness though ... I think my meds acually make my blood pressure rise ...yesterday was one of those days - I had it checked and I thought it was high, however it was considered in the normal range for my age ????  180/90 ????? is high in my book ....

take care .. move slowly and be gentle with your self ...

how are you doing otherwise?

big hug

Hi Elaine,

It could be a vestibular problem and there is vestibular physical therapy that, depending on which kind, can be cured very quickly.  Here in the States the staple medication for vertigo/dizziness is valium and meclizine.  But the physical therapy works without meds.

I was left anemic after my THR five months ago and it took me nearly all five of those months to become normal again and I never knew how weak and badly anemia could make a person feel.  I am 57.

I hope you get to the bottom of this bothersome affliction and feel better soon!
