DNA and medications

Has anyone used DNA testing to evaluate what can happen when adding/changing etc. a medication?  I've been thinking about it.  One of my drs says it's gobbly-goop (my word) and another is ok with it as they have had patients having difficulty with medications use it.

I am really interested about this but trying to get my dr to do it will be difficult.  Anything that costs seems to be a problem but as ive had trouble with meds i would like to see results. Love to hear how you get on.

Hi, although I did do this a number of years ago, I have not done so now.  My insurance does not cover the cost and I would have to pay the fee.  When I did it previously, I found it helpful and very interesting.  The tests have been expanded since I last participated and I'm curious if anyone else had tried to see how they felt about their results.  I'm going through med changes and having issues so am back considering it.

I have never heard of this any idea how it works?

Basically Jessica, you contact a company, they send swabs & info., you swab your mouth, return them to company, they then build a data base of your DNA and the medications you take.  Then, for example, if you need to add a medication, you can enter it into the program and see how that new medication will interact with what you are already taking.  Although it may sound complicated, it really isn't.  Take a look online at whatever comes up when you search, and they will explain it.  Supposedly, the effects of a new medication are based on your personal DNA and not on what a study of X number of people have shown.  I know it has helped people having difficulties with adjusting etc. medications.

Wow.
