I've been prescribed Fluoxetine last month
whilst I wait to have my contraceptive implant out as I have been suffering with mild depression and anxiety. For the first 3 weeks I was great , apart from a couple of the weekend I decided to have some wine, I was like a zombie and had palpations.
Then approx. 4th week I have like what I can describe as Flu, that lasted for about 4 days and now I feel spaced out, sweaty, exhausted ( I have been off work for 2 weeks ) Go bk to Docs yesterday and she thinks I should have another months supply of Fluoxetine, it's didn't click when I was in re Dr's yesterday that the 'flu' could be in fact this Fluoxetine until I came across this sight and reading the side effects on the box . So my question is do I go cold turkey as I have a week off from work ( implant out Tuesday ) or carry on taking tablet.
Thanking you in advance Nicola x
Hi, Nicloa. The symptoms that you describe are typical of fluoxetine along with the time frame that you mentioned. You usually start out feeling good and then start feeling the side effects. If your doc thinks you should continue then you probably should. Definitely don't go cold turkey. Alcohol should not be drunk while taking it because it increases the side effects. Flouxetine can take 6-8 weeks to start feeling better. I know for me and a lot of others it took a bit longer. But it will be worth it in the end. Please keep us informe on your progress and if you have any concerns, just ask. There is always someone here to help.
Thank you Karen, don't know if I can carry on with the effects this is causing me, and as I've only taken it a month the withdrawals might be worth it comparing to the side effects , I don't know this is so confusing and frightening as it's really effecting me.
Cheers Nic x
I know. It can be very troubling not knowing what to do.
The side effects can be very destressing until you even out on the medication. Is this your first time being on it?
Yes it is, I was on anti depressants for a few years , not sure what they were called , but they were certainly not these , I have decided to go cold turkey and see where I go from here. don't think I could feel any worse. Thanks for your support
I'm sorry they are not working for you. I hope you find what works best for you. God bless.
