So i started feeling a few symtoms of prostate cancer i went to the doctors and got a urnie test and they said i was fine does this mean i’m cancer free i’m just confused if you know anything comment please and thank you
If you have not had a psa test then I suggest that you do. Prostate cancer can hit men less than forty years old and in any event it is a good idea to establish a base line for yourself that later tests can be plotted against. Cheers, Richard
well depends is your doctor an experienced urologist or just a GP ? Have you had a PSA test ?
I would get a psa test to put my mind at ease. As far as i know you cant tell off a urine test, mabye for an infection yea but not cancer.
You need a PSA test(prostate specific antigen) this will give a reading to see if your prostate antigen level is raised or not.It is not%100 accurate but it can help the doctor to see if you need some more tests,a urine is not a test to find out if you have cancer or not.
A urine test will not show anything about your prostate as far as I know. It would show if you have a urinary tract infection. An elevated PSA number from a blood test would give a doctor reason to send you to a urologist. Aside from the urine test, did he do a DRE exam? To set your mind at ease, get a blood test with a PSA reading.
a urine test can be excellent but the new test is not yet available on the NHS so i assume you did not have itthe new test which i had last week is available at some private clinics in London and is called the Select MdX Test.
It can with 98% certainty determine whether you have cancer and,if so,is it aggressive
Hi Mike,
Your doctor[GP] should carry our a rectal examination to see if your prostate is hard or soft. If there is any sign of hardness the GP should then do PSA blood test. Elevated PSA levels must then be followed with a biopsy. This establishes if there is any cancer present and also the degree of its aggression. This gives you a Gleason number 0-10. Anything above 6 needs immediate attention.
So the order is as follows:-
1] Rectal examination
2] PSA blood test
3] Biopsy.
Don’t let you GP fob you off. A PSA test is easy and cheap to carry out. Prosate Cancer is serious stuff. Stand your ground
good Luck
G
I would seek a second opinion. You should have blood tests to see what your PSA levels are as everyone has said.
get a psa test asap. repeat it in 3 months. see if there is a difference.
