Hi Folks - I had TRHP on 12/26/18 and doing real well. MY surgeon gave me full clearance about 2 weeks ago.
Prior to surgery, I had 4 spinal blocks in my back - none worked - and cortisone shots. 1st 2 cortisone shots didn’t work, 3rd one did and it gave me a month pain free. Saw 3 surgeons - one said "you’re hip isn’t the problem, it’s your spine. The other said “it’s your hip and spine,” pain doctor said “it’s your sacroiliac joint - I had considered stem cell treatment with him.” Within the year I developed AVN and as I said above, on 12/26/18 I had TRHP.
Before surgery I had been going to yoga daily and it helped my back and I used props for my hip. I’m back at yoga, stretching and walking miles again. Right hip feels great. About a week ago, my left groin started aching, like a tight band was wrapped around it, pain went down the back of my left leg, and my left butt began to hurt. Advil did not help and I saw an ortho right across the street. He put me on the medrol pack but my knee still hurts. I have an appt with a spine doctor this week. I contacted my surgeon and will get an MRI of my left hip in May. He noted that in November 2018 my left hip looked fine, but as I know, things can change rapidly ie, the AVN. He also noted 25% of patients need the other hip done.
Have any experienced this, as to me, seems rapid. Or it could be my back but resembles hip.
Thanks in advance,
Georgette
Georgette,
Maybe, you are walking too far too soon, walking miles may not suit the hip only three months post op it is still healing inside. I waiting until 5.5 months before resuming pilates but then I was scared of damaging the hip and did not want to put it out.
Hey Georgette,
1st, doing your surgery the day after Christmas is pretty memorable, that’s another conversation. Anyway, when the Dr did the follow up xray to check on the RHR, she would’ve noticed the condition of the left hip on the xray. Talk back to your surgeon and review the xray, that should let you know if it’s the hip. If the xray doesn’t show heavy wear on the left hip, then it might be the back.
Good luck…
You’re right - day after Christmas was a tough nut. I’m a widow and live with my 2 dogs. After having tried everything fir a year and then discovering I had developed AVN during the year, pain is a great motivator. So when I asked my surgeon when his next available opening was and he said 12/26, I jumped on it. On my 3rd day of the medrol pack and who knows - maybe I just pulked a muscle in my groin.
Have a great weekend!
Georgette
Thanks Jen - could be, but I don’t do that in 1 walk . It’s divided into 4-6 walks with my dogs.
Have a great weekend!
Hi Georgette,
I’m sorry for your loss.
Wow, 2 dogs, how did you manage with the daily walks?
Let me know when you check the xray and what it reveals for your left hip.
I did my left 2/28/18 and I do my right 4/16/19.
This thing called life…
Awe . . . thank you. My son took them for a few weeks and brought Randall home first. About a week later, Stella came home. Eventually that’s how I gathered the mileage . . . I was taking them on separate walks. The AVN developed very quickly, it wasn’t there at the beginning of the year. Just heard from my surgeon, via e-mail, and I’ll call the office for x-rays.
Thanks again!
Georgette
i have been having the same thing and my doctor told me my left hop was fine when i got x rays on it ( even though i honestly can’t remember getting x rays on that side ) I just started going to the chiropractor so will see how that goes.
Rhonda,
Before my hip op I was x-rayed, I was told to lie on my back and both hips were x-rayed as doctor said my right hip had damage as well as the left which was to be operated on. Maybe that is how you were x-rayed.
Jen you ate probably right on that . it was a stand up machine
I know there are some good chiropractors out there, but last year, post-op, I was getting pt, acupuncture and saw a chiropractor. She was doing deep tissue in my sacroiliac joint and eventually I was walking out like a cripple. Don’t trust them anymore. I do go to yoga daily, and when I’m on the mat and warm up, all is good. As I cool down, the pain starts.
Good luck Rhonda!
