I had my second hip replacement 16 months ago, I thought I was supposed to have another chechup after 12 months? they said they would call me but never heard anything and when I rang this morning they said it's up to me if I want another checkup, I asked other people and they all said yes they saw their surgeon after a year. I thought it was all part of it.
Must vary from place to place. I was discharged at my post op check. The same for my husband and other people we know in our area. No mention of a check at a year. Just told to go straight to hospital/ surgeon if any problems in the next 3 months after discharge, any later than that via GP
hi joanne,
Good question ...
for me, only the follow up appointments was pre-scheduled (around 6 weeks post-op) and the removal of staples(14 days post-op) -
I also had 2nd THR within 6 months of 1st one ...
When was the last time you saw your surgeon? Are you concerned about something specific? Will they do a new xray?
My physical therapist is the one who checks my range of motion -
How are you getting on otherwise?
Big warm hug
renee
I had a six wk check up with surgeon, he said I will receive an appointment in post for a twelve month check up. I'm only 7 mths p.o. so I'll have to wait and see if the appointment arrives.
Happy healing xx
Ithink like everything else it varies from patient / surgeon / hospital to patient / surgeon / hospital !
I am being seen every 6 months - but then I have a complication.
Originally atvoriginal consult. I was told after post op check will see you every year and X-ray hip. After op at post op check. Told new guidelines don't need to see you unless you have a problem. Wrote to his secretary 9 months post op asking a question and consultant saw me two weeks later. This is NHS. You could always ring the hospital and ask to speak to consultants secretary. They are usually very helpful x
Thank you Renee, no particular problem, GP advised me to have xrays done, I was just curious. Hug to you too.
Joanne
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I would think so. I am having my one-year check next Friday. I still have pain, so will welcome the x-ray and outcome. I'm walking well and have taken a couple of flights, but still want the reassurance.
Still in pain - that's not so good - but going by my recent one-year checkup, they did seem amazed that I was totally pain free with what he called a 'normal' range of movement - so much so, I pushed my leg up higher past the point that the surgeon pushed it to. He seemed delighted with it. Only six months to the next checkup though.
