Do I really need to take Olanzapine ??

Hi, I have been to my psychiatrist today and after trying various different tablets over the last few months and having reactions to them all she decided to put me on Olanzapine 2.5mg to see how I feel on it. I have been taking lustral 200mg every morning for years and was feeling fine with it and on one visit to my psychiatrist I was feeling a mix of emotions, I was angry and I was crying as I was sad. My sister was in hospital at the time and not getting better, I was angry because the hospital would not transfer her to a better hospital and crying as I knew that she needed better medical help or she would die. Suddenly I was diagnosed as bipolar , just like that as I was asked a few questions and answered truthfully. Well bigger fool me on that one. From as early as I can remember in my life I have been able to see some peoples auras, feel the presence of spirits and get that gut feeling when something is wrong with family members. It has never bothered me as it is something that my aunt and grandmother were able to do also. I believe in the spirit world and in life after death but these are my beliefs and I think everyone is entitled to their own. The conversation with the psychiatrist turned to subjects like this and when I replied she left the room and came back in and said that I needed medication to rid me of these things in my head. Okay some of you may say she was right but she made me feel like I was totally crazy and asked had voices told me to harm myself or kill myself. I said I had never self harmed and over the years I had often felt like finishing things but I have a husband and two wonderful children who know I suffer from depression but they help me when times get bad and we have fun when I am feeling good. I am on a cocktail of pills for medical problems, I had a stroke when I was 40 and another 5yrs later, a stomach disorder, vitamin malabsorbtion, high bp, to name just a few. I know 2.5mg of Olanzapine is a small dose but since I have balance and co-ordination problems since the strokes I do not want to take something that might make me more liable to falling over or being clumsy as my bones are brittle. I am 51 and have been classed as an invalid since my first stroke so I am deemed not fit for employment so I would be grateful if anyone could give me some insight into this medication and basically will it make things better or worse for me. I am wary of new pills as I never know how they will affect my other medical conditions. Sorry for the long post but just wanted to make my circumstances clear. Also i was told to take the tablet in the morning if that makes any difference. All advice is appreciated. Thank you .

After much deliberation and several tries at anti deps dr wants to try olanzapine for me. I have depression.  I am very unsure about taking it. I also look forward to replies you get,

I was on Olanzapine for a few years along with Clamipramine but on a 7.5mg dose, I can't say whether it helped or not but I did get better it is often used off licence to help with depression and anxiety alongside anti depressants, I think at a low dose it will make you sleepy so best taken at bedtime. Sorry can't be any more helpful. Neil

So do I Anna as I really do not know what to do.

Thank you for your reply, any information is a help, take care Aspinan
