People on here have helped me understand and copebetter with the changes with my THR, ending with an inch longer leg, which i have read how some of you have overcome the challenge of putting socks and shoes ect, but hiw can i over come my problem, on the same side of my THR in 2007 had a half knee replacement, 2 years later it came loose so had another half put in, couple years down the line it also went wrong, so had full knee done, problem solved, i can walk fine, does get painfull after a while and bending is very limited, physio did all they could for me, but still couldn't get the leg to bend back, can not kneel, and if have trouble getting up off the floor, have to walk up on my hands, now i have an extra inch, life is harder, can not reach my foot for love or money, even tried ways people have suggested on here, but because there not enough bend in knee, its a no go....... are you in the same position, the funny thing is I am carer for my husband...... and he has to help me put my socks ect on...... Just as well we have a good sense of humour and laugh about it, because at the end of the day I am still lucky.........
Susan,
I am sorry to hear about all the problems you are having. Right before my THR I purchased a "sock assist" from Amazon. I got the one covered in terry cloth because it grips the sock. This made putting my socks on very easy during the short time I needed it. It was also really inexpensive (under $10 and free shipping). There are so many things out there for people now with these kind of needs. I hope your life gets easier.

It is Val very scary, i gsve been stuck on the floor, no they dont tell you these things, like uour not to lift i am 4 months post op, and Monday before xmas my husband had a mini stroke, when the ambulance got here, they asked me to shut away our dog, ( which i can understand ) she weighs heavy do that was that out the window, i would give anything to be able to curl up on the couch, but it wont happen, and my leg and foot is always ice cold, dont know why, keep asking doc, but no answers, good luck to you for 2015 hon.....
Susan there is a thing to put your sock on with.It looks lore four big fingers.on each side is cloth tails that are pretty long.
Do your fold it in half , then put your sock on it which leaves a hole in the center.put the thing on the floor hold on to the two tails slip it over your foot and pull on the tails over the rest of your foot. The sock goes on your foot and the thing pulls off.It makes life easier.I wish I knew what it was called.
It's made out of soft fabric on the inside outside can either be plastic or heavier cloth.
Hi Susan05534,
I do not know. My revision is scheduled for next month and I believe that once problems force us into replacements, we will never be normal again to some degree or another.
That is where problem solving comes in. If we can stay in problem solving mode, we can stay positive, I think. Like rolling with the punches that life throws at us. What do we settle for and what do we fight against? I know that my revision will cause even more changes and I do not want that, but I want to hope to walk again with less pain so I take the risk just like I took for the first THR that was botched.
What I wonder about your case is why do the half knee surgeries seem to fail? Can you not ask for whole knee replacement? Would that make a difference for you?
I hope I do not bring you down.
Dawn
