Hi, I'm a 22 year old student and for the past 2-4 weeks I've been suffering intense heart palpitations, a frequent "squeezing" sensation on the left side of my chest and general chest heaviness. I went to A&E who told me it was my asthma, even though my symptoms weren't anything like they usually are (no wheezing, shortness of breath). I'm eating normal and I don't drink or smoke. I also have sharp pain in my throat that comes and goes, frequent headaches and a weird feeling of heaviness on my head, even though I've got 7/8 hours sleep every night. I went to the doctor today who just checked my BP, HR and said I may have some ectopic beats and told me everything I'm feeling is due to anxiety I don't feel like I have anxiety at all, my only stress right now is from these symptoms and feeling I'm in being ignored till its too late. Right now my head feels so heavy and eyes are closing as well as palpitations and I'm just so scared. has anyone had anything like this??
Certainly sounds like anxiety or stress. Have you been gong through a stressful time lately?
I sometimes get the clenching feeling when stressed and hate it.
Ectopics are quite normal.
Thanks for your reply. Honestly at the moment all I am stressed about is this “anxiety”. I can’t shake the feeling I’m going to drop dead and these symptoms don’t help me. I really hope it is just anxiety and I can carry on with my life
Theres many types of Anxiety disorders and symptoms, the way you’re describing your feelings is associated with panic disorder. I suffer from the chest pain, for years.. also 24 years old and in decent shape but I have full blown heart attack symptoms EVERY day. So you’re not alone and my doctor says its anxiety.. So I hope this helps ease your mind.
It sounds like it could be stress and anxiety but I would expect your doctor to run some basic tests to check for organic causes… eg thyroid and anemia
I had a thyroid function blood test which came back fine but I havent had my anemia checked since early 2019 when it was perfect…
