Does anyone suffer anxiety without any triggers?

I'm wondering if I'm alone in this situation. Sometimes I'll start to feel the makings if a panic attack or anxiety symptoms (heart palpitations, feeling like I need to take a deep breath, etc.) but there isn't anything particularly stressful going on. Sometimes I'll just be watching tv and symptoms begin. Does anyone else experience this?

Yes indeed, this is often the case. It may not be that there are no triggers, rather that you are unaware of them at the moment.

Hello samatha,

Yes, this is very common.......I think it indicates that you are of a nervous disposition (no disrespect), as this was how mine started many years ago.  If you can understand it and perhaps get some advice now, it will not develop further.

Good Luck, and best wishes.

Happens to me merely all the time. I had one in class today out of no where! Of course, there are reasons it's just not always easy to know all of them every single time. It's terrible to be hit by it when we aren't expecting it though!

Hi Samantha,

dont worry i have never had an anxiety attack that i was expecting, they always seem to be for no reason or out of no where, it freaks me out evenmore cause its difficult to believe that it is just anxiety when your not feeling anxious or stressed, but like the other guys have said maybe we just dont realise whats caused them.

Hope your okay anyways x

hi sam,omg im exact the same and it freaks me out i could be in a shop, work or just about to sit down and eat dinner,im consciously concentrating on my heart as i have irregular beat.like you i get palps and chest pains alot and in my arms.i mean is this really panic or somethin actually medical?? im sick of it ive started hypnotherapy along with some CBT but no relief yet. your defo not alone.i sometimes feel bit dazy then butterflies in my stomach and if i dont relax even wen i try to i feel very lightheaded and feel like i could pass out its very scarey. are you on any meds i was prescribed some but have not taken anything and dont want to either coz of effects etc, what other symptoms do you get

Hi,

this used to be called Free Floating Anxiety, today it usualy comes under the label of General Anxiety Dissorder (GAD). Fundamentaly these attacks come from suppressed issues in the subconscious, so commonly you are not aware of the causes of your anxiety. CBT is useful here, but it can take up to a year to see the lightbulbs coming on!

Hope this helps put a piece of the jigsaw together.

All my best,

Alex

If something on your mind thinks it, it will happen.  Sometimes the body conditions itself to get into fight flight mode. Maybe something on tv triggered the reaction without you realising it.
