Does anyone think IBS can be assoicated with perimenopause?? I know that doctors are always in denial about the connection-at least the ones I went to. I'm 39 years old and my periods are regular, however, I suspect a hormonal imbalance because in the last two years I have developed chronic bacterial vaginosis BV(which the doctors cannot figure out the cause!) and frequent UTI's and now IBS symptoms suddenly started at the end of May. I would appreciate any input on this/and/or if you had a similar experience and how you manage it!
I was told by my specialist that ibs can be made worse or be caused by hormones. I had to go on the depo contraception injection. That way my hormones are regular and I don’t have any time of the month. Hasn’t cured it. But instead of being so bad I had to go to A&E for intravenous medication I can now manage it with medication at home.
Hormones do affect IBS. When my IBS started, my periods always were much more painful. The best way to manage it is with painkillers and antispasmodics. Now my IBS is dormant and causes me no problems even when I get periods.
