does anyone use evening primrose gels?

Has anyone tried these, and did they help?

I tried it but was allergic to it.  You also have to be careful with this my RA told me that it can affect you liver.

regards,

Mandy

I have taken it since my 30s ( i am now 64).evening primrose was the supplemnt to take to fight PMT and period cramps back in the day...and it helped tremendously. I have continued taking it except for about 9 months in 2015..when I was diagnosed with GERD, Barretts, chronic gastitis, Sjogrens, Pityriasis Roscea and osteoporosis....So I stopped all my vitamins and added supplements as I had to take about 8 tablets 3x a day... since I have stopped all medication in the last few months I have resumed my primrose oil...(when I remember as mornings are usually rushed for me..I still work and have to leave home by 7a.m)

unfortunately I have done any more research on this recently  and did not know about the effect on my liver. However I have had an abdominal scan about 9 months ago and all organs were fine.

I meant to say I havent done further research

Thank you, Mandy. As I had only come across it for external use before now, I'll check further. The women who uses it said that after 3 months, her skin, eyes and mouth were all much better. I do worry about my liver due to tons of full for joint pain, tho I stay below daily maximum.

Hi Shaq

Do you have dry mouth and eyes while on sort of?) regular usage? And how's your skin when you're on it?

Thank you

Hi aitarg, I found your post very interesting. I have been taking evening primrose oil for many years, prescribed by my GP for breast pain. I get dry eyes and at night, a dry mouth. I do though have two other conditions that could cause this: an allergy to dust and macular degeneration. I didn't realise it could be caused by evening primrose oil. Now that I'm on natural desiccated thyroid for my hypothyroidism instead of thyroxine maybe I can reduce, or stop, the evening primrose oil. There's no harm in experimenting - I'll soon know if I need the evening primrose oil, as I'll get the breast pain back!

Sorry Barbara, I guess I was not very clear. I'm looking for folks with Sjogren's who have dry eyes, dry mouth and or very dry skin who've tried ingesting evening primrose oil gels. The person who told me about it leads our in-person quarterly support group meetings. She says it's solved those issues tho not others, and I wanted to hear from more folks before trying it.

Hi Aitarg, sjogrens never gave me the dry eyes and as I had also developed Pityriasis Roscea at around the same time the dermatologist said my dry skin was due to that...so at the time I didnt relate the dry skin to sjogrens. and as I just started meds for all the other 'conditions' I was diagnosed with within a matter of 4 months so i stopped my evening promrose oil and fish oils and multivits to be on the safe side (the derm.said no one knew what caused Pityriasis and there was no cure but it does eventually go and when asked if it could be an allergy to something I was ingesting...he said it could be)  to i stopped all the vitamins etc i was taking (plus the fact that I was started on meds for other conditions including Pityriasis) since i have come off all meds I have only recently restarted the primrose oil so i am not sure if it has any effect on my dry skin yet but from now on I will monitor it.

Ok. Good luck

Thank you, Shaq
