Does anything help?

Hi all, I am really struggling to get my symptoms of IBS under control, I take probiotics everyday and linseeds but it's still not helping, buscopan doesn't seem to help me either. Is there any medications you can recommend for me to try, getting desperate now.

Some people can't tolerate linseeds and have no results with probiotics either. Maybe stop them for a while to see if you feel better without them.  Try a food diary or the Low Fodmap diet to see if that helps.   I would ask your doctor about a different antispasmodic if Buscopan doesn't work. You could also try Nurofen along with Buscopan  This helps me if I have a bad flare up or the pain is persistent.

Hi Jessica, my doctor prescribed Omeprazole which works but recently switched me to ranitidine.  I had taken ranitidine when I first developed IBS and it worked really well. I don't take either regularly because sometimes it appears to aggravate my system.

I tried to manage more with diet and exercise.   My problem seems to be more with constipation instead of diarrhea.  Are you suffering more with one or the other?

I've tried omeprazole too has no effect of me either, I suffer with constipation more than diarrhoea, they tried me on lacasitive drinks one a day to try and help but that just made me in more pain, seriously beggining to get fed up feeling like I'm getting no where

I've not tried nurofen I will give that a go, tried so many tablets none seem to help

Hi Jessica, sorry I can't help, I have tried so many different medications, FODMAP diets, probiotics and food diaries etc etc and yet to find anything that helps and I suffer low abdominal pain 24/7 with alternating C & D and I am totally fed up with it. All I can say is keep trying different things an maybe you will get lucky and find something that helps, best of luck and hope you feel better soon.

Hope it works.

Hi Jessica.

Try Acacia Tummy Fibre, it takes time read /follow instructions. It has worked for me.

Good luck and pleas let me know after a month or so how you get on.

Jess,

I don't take any meds. I just tried gluten free and dairy free and it is working.

Hi Jessica, if I'm more constipated, I use a dieter's tea and it helps. I have also gone on a white diet (very bland) rice, noodles, rice cakes for a day or less.  Plain rice seems to calm my stomach.  Hope you are feeling much better soon.

There are different types of laxatives you can try. Fybogel helps some people more than laxido or movicol. You can also try dulcolax.

Have you tried MiraLax?  My gastro recommended it for IBS C.  Works for me; altho, these days Imodium is becoming my best friend in a bottle.

Miralax looks really good but I can't seem to get it in the UK

I tried fybogel and it did nothing for a while then all of a sudden 3 days later it all started to work and put me in a lot of pain, I will try dulcolax tho

Oh sorry I keep forgetting that this is a UK forum.  Is it strictly UK?  I'm in Chicago, IL USA.

Yeah I found it on amazon but it won't ship to uk

This is good to hear.  I've recently decided to try gluten free and dairy free to see if I can get relief from symptoms, because I prefer not to take meds if I can help it.  I hope leaving out gluten and dairy from my diet makes a difference.

The active ingredent in each dose is Polyethylene Glycol 3350 17 g.  Maybe you can get another product with that as the only active ingredient.  The stuff really works for me for IBS-C.  Just a thot.

In the UK polyethylene glycol is the active ingredient in movicol, cosmocol and laxido. All available on prescription from the gp. Hope that helps!

Tried dulcolax the pain it put me in was the worst pain i have ever felt in my life, will never take it again
