Does betahistine delay compensation???

I read in someone's post that they thought this was the case. Has anyone read any evidence that this is the case??

Yes because it's a vestibular suppresant.

I thought it increased blood supply to the inner ear...so I don't understand how this can delay compensation.

Google it ;-) it basically shuts the vestibular system off

Why are you taking betahistine?  For what diagnosis?  If this is for Meniere's Disease, there is no compensatory process involved.

I do not have a diagnosis. This is my second bout of imbalance I had my first 2 yrs ago after a long and very rough 48 hour ferry crossing. I had it for 5 months then...

This time I have had it since February no ferry involved I did have several colds and oddly 4 people at work were off with labrythitis. I know labrythitis is not contagious but illness that can cause it are. dr said labrythitis for me too. But I do not have spinning sensation. In my case could the 32mg x3 a day prevent compensation

When it started this time I also had very bad migraine like headaches where I could leave the dark of my bed. That lasted a couple of weeks

No spinning sensation + no hearing loss = no labyrinthitis.

Since there is no spinning sensaton, you do not have a vestibular problem. Your problem needs to be taken more seriously by someone.  You should get off the "compensation" train.  This does not apply to you.

You should see someone who can do a general workup, including blood pressure monitoring, blood tests to rule out low levels of something, and look to see if you are walking properly, and you are feeling things properly in the arms and the legs.

i have just seen an ENT consultant twice, at the last consultantion he looked in my ears said they were fine and told me to continue with the betahistine and come back in 6 months. but i will lose my job if im not recovered soon.

i feel like im on a ferry on water, especially bad when i change the position of my head. When im at my worst i still feel the sensation when sat

Interestingly I feel ok when my husband drives me in the car

Have u looked into MAV? Or there's another one called mal de embarkment or something
