I've recently moved to the UK from South Africa and experienced my first real winter. I was wondering if anyone else finds that cold temperatures increase symptoms. I'm having a really bad flare up at the moment, worst I have experienced so far. I was diagnosed some years back but have never taken meds apart from Paracetamol and vitamins and tried to keep myself healthy.
Hi Becky000
The cold is one of my worst enemies! I Even hate going into the freezer and fridge sections in the supermarket ! I have a small electric heat pad that I have by the bed which help, if I had a blanket one I would over heat and then that doesn't help eather! This FM has a lot to answer for.
Thanks. I don't know if I could use a heat pad because strangely, my hot flushes have also intensified. Don't know if this is just due to my age or whether FM causes this symptom to flare up too. I was actually looking forward to a colder climate! But my body seems to think otherwise.
it all depends on the person ,extreme cold effects most of us by contracting muscles tendons/ligaments/ if we get a dry heat in summer i am fine ,last year it was high humidity most of the summer and it was awful , the same goes when we get cold and damp .so theres no way of saying yes or no .depend on the person.
sorry cant be more helpful .
if you find your better with heat ,why not invest in an electric blanket .this may help your muscles by keeping them warm if only at night .
Hiya Becky, I'm in Australia-Tasmania...yes the cold weather does have an impact on my symptoms. Tasmania can be very cold-snowing and the summers are wonderful..not quite as hot and muggy as mainland Australia...it's just beautiful in spring and summer here..enjoy UK, hope you will adapt quickly...I was born in the UK moved when I was 7, we lived in Sydney for years when we married, wasn't diagnosed until we moved here..but I can tell you I had issues in Sydney too, not diagnosed but I did have issues......lots of hot water bottles are great..also we have reverse cycle air conditioner in our home, so the temperature is always good inside that is, but we must go out...brrrrrr...:-) xxx
Thanks Christine. Who would've thought it got so cold in Tasmania. I thought you had similar climate to South Africa. I actually like the cold as I've had too much heat after living in Botswana for many years followed by high humidity at the coast in SA. Well I like the cold, but my body seems to think otherwise. I'll try staying indoors for a bit........don't think the dog will appreciate it though!
Hi Christine..Its always ben my dream to visit Australia..I had some relatives there 'somewhere'..I have a cousin that lives in Perth, and works at the airport on customs...Guess I will keep on dreaming..Hope you have a good day..Anne..
Perth is beautiful....love Australia....gotta admit though the politics going on at the moment grrrr..have a lovely day..be blessed..:-) xxx
SNAP my hot flushes have also become a lot worse. But if Im not having a hot moment then it does help.
