Does GAD/Anxiety make you irritated?

Hi.

My partner of 8 years is going through some problems at work at the moment (investigations that could potentially get him fired), none of it is his fault, and he has been treated badly at work.

He is extremely stressed and his anxiety is very bad atm.

He gets very annoyed at me at all times, is snappy and irritated. Feels like anything sets him of and he will snap at me.

Is this common with sufferers of anxiety, does anyone have any experiences in regards to this?

Thank you all for helping me out in my previous posts (especially Donna), you’re all great x

Hello,

I had a simliar situation with a very toxic person at my old employers.

My anxiety was chronic, drugged up with meds, panic attacks.. Horrible!

All you can do is be there for him and support him as much as you can, tell him if there is anything at all he wants to talk about you will always be there for him. (If you are in that kind of relationship).

My wife was a rock for me and 100% supportive so my suggestions above are from experience.

I hope the situation at his work gets sorted out but unfortunately some employers are still ignorant and non supportive of mental health sufferers.

All the best, any more questions please ask, happy to share experience if you need more advice..

Thank you for this

It is a very hard situation and his anxiety is through the roof!

It’s very hard for me when he gets irritable. Did you used to get like that with your wife? I understand that’s it’s something that can’t be controlled at times but it does really hurt me.

I was on prescribed meds that were quite high dose so I was more non confrontational (i'm generally easy going anyway so don't often argue).

I got chronic anxiety and sometimes tearful, probably through frustration and helplessness at the situation and lack of support from my employer.

In that scenario your boyfriend will probs be a long way away (mentally / emotionally) from how he is when not stressed.

Tell him that he is staying things that are hurting you and you are trying hard to support him and you love him, see how that goes.

Often when suffering chronic anxiety we dont think rationally so bear that in mind but its no exuse to be hurtful to you.

You obviously care a lot otherwise you would not have posed the question.

Hope all returns to good for you
