Does Going Cold Turkey work?

I was on a very high dose 60mg of Citalopram but I ran out of tablets 4 days ago as I was satying at my parents house and couldn't get to the doctors. It's been 4 days completely off them and I would like to keep off them but know in reality that you're supposed to gradually wean yourself off these tablets. Personally I'm sick of the drug so I would like to battle on cold turkey. I am worried about the side effects getting serious though. So far, I've been sick, had hot and cold sweats, severe anxiety and mainly a very dizzy feeling which started in my head and has spread throughout my whole body; I can even feel the tingly sensation in my hands. I'm just worried that I might have a seizure or something. If this is the worst the withdrawal symptoms can get then I'll carry on as I really want this drug out of my body. If I feel any worse I will go back to taking the drug and cutting the dosage down slowly.

Has anyone successfully managed to come off this drug by going cold turkey?

Hi Bev 6978

Don't go cold turkey. Go to the A&E and explain to them that you can't get to the doctors you normally see and that you have run out of tablets and then start taking the tablets as prescribed by your doctor.

If you don't want to do that then phone your doctors and explain what you need and why you can't get there to pick them up. Maybe they will have another idea. ?Maybe theres a doctors near you they can ring and sort it out for you.

Give it a try but please don't go cold turkey.

Good luck x
