Does it effect anyone's water works? Frequency of night time toilet breaks.

Hi, I think I have IBS, down to eating too much bad food and sugar. I’m trying to stop now of course. But I was wondering, do any of you have issues with going to the toilet frequently during the night, when you have an IBS flare up?

I do drink a lot of water during the day, and have a few protien shakes. But I do not drink after 6pm, but I’m still waking up all night and going to the toilet. I have even had to move into the spare room. I have been using disposable bottles, to gauge how much sometimes I go 2 pints worth!!

I have had a PSA blood test to check for prostate cancer..

Does IBS make the body retain water? I only have a problem when lying down. I wake up most nights and have to take a Co codamel.

Does anyone else get bloated, water retention, which leads to my toilet trips during the night.

Thanks.

Frequent urination is certainly one of the effects of IBS, but in my experience the urge to urinate is not as a result of water retention, more to do with distention of the bowel pressing on the bladder. Sounds like you’re doing the right thing having it checked out by your GP.

hi spence, i would see your doctor you could have a problem with your bladder or kidney? i don’t what you mean by lots of water, that is a very loose term. you need to work out when this happens and for how long in total this happened for.

thats great that your getting this checked out, but am getting this too when having flare ups and mostly at nights when laying down but i find its after eating something that dont gree with me, i dont drink alot of water so i dont understand why but i asked around and other people having this issues and even research said thats a ibs sign. i went to my dr with concerns some blood test was run but he didnt call me so am guessing its not a cause for concern

Bladder problems can occur with IBS; reduce your water intake during the day. Speak to your doctor for tests and diagnosis to see what you have. Have you had a urine test to see if you have a UTI which causes frequent urination? You will need tests to rule out other causes before IBS can be diagnosed. Bloating can occur with IBS, but not everyone will experience this because everyone experiences IBS differently.

Hi all, thanks ks for the feedback. Here I am at 5 in the morning awake with bloated stomach. I didn’t drink from 4 yesterday, and went to the toilet 4 times, for about a pint tonight.

I’m not normally this bad, so I think I have another water infection and IBS. I wish I know why my IBS, if It is that, is worse at night time.

I have had this for over a year, when it was this bad before I did have a water test which looked for a cancer causing chemical, so I do not think it’s that. After a year, surely I would have seen other symptoms. Very interesting what Jan said, that my IBS causes stomach extension, I think this is the problem I have. After all, I have had blood tests for liver, kidbey recently, everything is fine.

I have been eating unhealthy since November, so I’m paying the price now.

If my stomach issues was caused by cancer, the it would have gotten worse by now. I can put on muscle in the gym, and do not suffer any other issues. I don’t really get gas or crampes, even when my belly is extended, like it is now. I look pregnant! Last time I was like this, I went to the hospital, they said it was a water infection and I feel like that now.

Still, just don’t in know where all this water is coming from. Not drinking for a number of hours, then going all night.

Ugh.
