Hi Gaynor. …what AD are you taking?
hi sue doselupin
some days may be better than others but if you feel like you’re not improving let your doctor know because sometimes it’s trial and error with these medications. Some people have had to try different medications.
medications may not take away anxiety or negative thoughts 100% that is why you need to find other ways to help manage it along with medication.
Speaking with the therapist is very helpful, including CBT or cognitive behavioral therapy.
Negative thoughts are something you have to work on daily. I have learned that I have to tackle it immediately. I do not let them fester. What I do is tell myself that " I know this is a negative brain message that is not based on reality. It is based on catastrophic thinking. I do not have time for this.“
then Immediately think of something positive or go do something right away. I do this each and every time. No more what it thinking.
you have to be consistent and eventually the brain will automatically block it out.
try not to overreact with the anxiety otherwise it can get worse. I just take it matter-of-factly and my symptoms will lessen or go away .
there are some great meditations on YouTube for anxiety, depression, sleep, proper breathing which is very important, etc. I listen to these every night before going to sleep and they really relax me. Take care of yourself and try to stay busy.
depression recovery is definately a rollercoaster ride whatever meds your on. I was on sertraline for 6 years with ups and downs still till they stopped working. I was given mirtizapine for 2 months but they made me swell up with odema so had to stop them then had a 10 day washout. 7 weeks ago I was put on venlafaxine 75mg, 2 weeks ago increased to 112.5mg and feel bloody awful with anxiety, you get start up side effects and also with increases so know just how you feel!!..
