I am worried ever since a few days ago when I discovered after the tape had fallen off, they had left a staple in! and I saw another little staple earlier but it has now gone? My surgeon wont be in until sat, when I have an appt. I also think underneath that scab there is another staple.
Don't panic !
As you are seeing a dr on sat i wouldn't worry too much , they will sort you out on sat I am sure

Dawn, I t could be the remainder of the internal stitches which will dissolve. Have someone else look and confirm if it is indeed a staple. Try not to get too worried as your local health professionals can remove if confirmed.
Hi Dawn
It doesn't look infected however if it feels hot to touch and feels like it has swollen so the scar feels pulled you could have start of an infection. But if this was recently done it could be from surgery.
Take your temp if u have one don't wait for your next appointment go to doctors straight away. I have had two infection which resulted in 2 revision hip replacements and I'm only 36 so even if it worried go get checked out. Some types of infection are very slow to develope which mine was but if u get it checked and it is infected they can treat it before it does any damage.I Hope everything is ok for you and get well soon..
Kind regards
Nicky
Hi dawn
No your wound does not look infected, if it was, it would be red, or swollen or weeping and it's none of those by the looks of this pic
The staple that has been left in can be taken out by your doctor if you said you are seeing him sat.
The black bit if that what you are concerned about is just blood or something, I had that it and it will just drop off when its ready.
Don't worry, it all looks good.
Thank you everyone I feel better now
forgot to say I am about 6 weeks post op
It doesn't look infected to me either but I can see what looks like a staple.
It should be ok there for another couple of days and as others have said it would look inflamed, maybe be hot to the touch and maybe swollen and weeping, possibly with a fever for yourself. Try not to worry, I'm sure it will be fine 😊
I had the same thing happen after my first THR last August. Four staples appeared a few days after the rest were removed. After my THR revision this February, one appeared later. I think they're under the skin and work their way up. But yours is not infected ... believe me, you would know if it were. I also had both knees replaced in 2012, and rogue staples appeared after the others were removed.
do they put staples on underneath layers too or somthing?
I don't think so. They put dissolving stitches in lower levels.
It looks slightly red. Get yourself down to the do goes surgery and see a nurse.
goodluck
I think if it were infected, you'd see a lot of puss and it would be bright red in a huge area. I think what you're seeing is a scab and stretch marks from the surgery.
I got the staple out yesterday , and got the aok my incision is not infected..I also gained some more courage after mastering getting in and out of car, and actually sat on only one pillow instead of 4 on my low couch, and put my legs up on couch.. before I could only sit straight ahead atop a mountain of pillows... progress is exciting : ) Still being careful not to have knee above hip level though!
Excellent news dawn and your right progress is exciting in our world.lol !
