Does sciatica cause pain in operated hip

Hello, Does sciatica cause pain in operated hip, mostly in outer femur area ? I am 7 months post op.

Thanks, Tolga

Sciatica is pain that goes from your lower back down the leg, and from what Mr. Google told me, the pain can go down the back, outside, or front of the leg. When I had it during pregnancy, it only went down the back of my leg. Pain on the outside of a thigh can also be from https://patient.info/health/greater-trochanteric-pain-syndrome or from a number of other reasons. Is your pain on the side of your thigh?

Thanks Annie, It is on the side and the back both...

I would think that your doctor could tell you if it is sciatica or something else. Pain is a signal that something is wrong, and I'd get checked out if I were you!

Afraid so, I had terrible sciatica in my left leg after hip replacement but none in right leg after hip replacement.

Evetually came right, lots of treading water to strengthen up my spine helped no end, about two weeks after I started in hot pool I noticed the difference.

I am 65 and have developed stenosis of spine, we all have it to varying degrees at 65, but of course with my background systemic arthritis I may have been hit harder earlier, stenosis is a natural degeneration of our spine I'm afraid.

Where did I get the above info, from my sister, who is a doctor of nursing, and director of nursing/ or matron as they used to be known, in a major general and teaching hospital.

When I have questions I ring her, she doesn't waste her time even with me, I get very blunt and truthful answers when it comes to medical questions.

Girly i wish I had a clear answer myself. The pain is horrible if it nerves, muscles to define which im still seeking. All I know is I was walking on a broken hip for 8 months, but after THR Im unable to walk or stand for very long talking abouut minutes not hours. I hope your not going down my road.

Hi Tolga

I have has sciatica a few times and it comes from curvature of the spine. It does send shooting pains down the leg from the hip area. Since I've had my hip replaced I haven't had these pains but problems with my foot which I think is caused by my ankle.

You need to see the doctor to get the diagnosis confirmed.  I wish you luck.
